Setting to sys managed is a good way to check if the size is really the problem. After that you could always try to find the optimum for your system.

I personally think performance gain from a fixed size for the vir mem is over rated a lot. My system shows no differences during benchmarking at all. I DO get a better performance by putting the vir mem in a dedicated partition on a different disk then where the actual operating system is installed.

Have a seperate partition for your pagefile, it's easier to manage. Pagefile size should be set to 1.5 times the amount of RAM installed, but don't forget to allow for future expansion.

for example : when I start XP , and check the Virtual ram space it uses 200 Ram to run the desktop with the programs I need (Norton Protection Center, etcetc) when I use some programs and require the PC the use some of its system and check the ram again when I have everything closed again it uses 260 - 280 Virtual ram space to run desktop. I might be wrong but thats what I notice.
Many thanks for info Hunter.... there is no program to automatically defrag the memory without rebbot ?

Same opinion here....

You have enough space, try adjusting it near the max value admited by W XP, try fixed max and min values, in example 4096 and 4092.

4096 is the max value admited by W XP.

I am using 2 Hard Drives.... and i adjusted 2 Virtual memory banks, one on each HD, both of 4096/4092 size, but... how to know wich bak is using W XP.... ? or how to order it to use one of them with priority ?

Well I changed it to a preset value...but it wont let me enter anything larger than 4096 mb....so that is what I entered......

Default defrag mem

Redwine,
Flight Simulator AutoStart (FSAutoStart) will defrag your memory without a reboot.

Set the minimun value just near to that maximun value.... in example 4090 or 4092 to ensure a big virtual memory capacity always.

Well if you wait that long it will take forever.

I defrag manually every other day, which takes about 30 seconds and I'm using Diskeeper 10 as well. The program also allows me to bootup defrag which will get everything else that normal defragging won't get.
I havnt defraged in almost 2 years! the problem with my pc was that the HD was copied from another one, and the copying program, made the sections of the HD so small, that now nothing can comprehend defraging it, it will just say I dont have enough memory free

edit: I just checked it! i havnt defragged in 1105 days!

Ok the best thing you can do is Uninstall as much as you can of old, boring, unused programs that you can and also clear out as many stray bits that you can find of say old log files, images, video's, mp3's ect ect. Then grab Partion Magic (any version, I use v.8) and use that to redo your HDD partions and make them bigger. This will mean at least 1 partion will most likely have to go. Now the good bit about partion magic is that it can redo partions on the fly without data loss. Its not 100% recommended by the makers of Partion Magic, as always the CYA policy is to back up first. BUT I have been using Partion Magic for over 5 years now and todate never had any drama with it.

1's thats done you will now have room to breath on your C: drive. If nothing else at least make sure you get more space on your C: drive and Defrag it. Since its the Drive used to run your OS (therefore your PC from) its always advisable to leave C: drive with at least 30% of the drive empty to allow for system maintance and other system related apps.

In fact as a rule I only ever install the OS and system related apps/files to my C: drive. I never install anything else to C: drive. That includes games, 3D rendering programs ect ect. Thats what D:,E:,F:,G:, H:, I:, J: and K: HDD's are for.
