To Dark Folle

What harobor did you raid in the IIA that had a tanker and passenger liner? You must of had all one shot kills because you only had 5 torps right?

I found it almost empty around that time. Go for Gibraltar, its worth the extra hazzle. (Not recommended as someones first harbour raid)

HunterIXC: Good to finally see you in a decent boat! For me it will always only be the VIIC.

Pros:
*The best looking sub
*Nimble

Cons:
*Range

It is by far the best subs to go harbour-fishin` in, and excellent at avoiding depth charges. I tried that in a IX D2 once, and got smacked around pretty badly.

Thanks stabiz...in the middle of a 'lean' patrol at the mo, so will give it a go

Type VIIs are nice, but you can't beat the IXs, especially the IX/D2. It might not dive like the others but so far in 4 patrols it's done great. And when I've been in trouble with the dreaded DDs hunting us, it's gotten us out alive and in one piece every time. Oh, and the decoys sure helped too.

Default Why is engine upgrade cheating?

I dont get it????

qoute
"If you believe in realism, DON'T get the engine upgrades. Except for the Type VIIa all Type VII and IX u-boats came with superchargers, and the top speeds in the game without them are the actual top speeds of the real boats with them. Taking the supercharger upgrades is cheating."

I think adding a supercharger or what the german call the "COMPRESSOR" is fuel economic(specialy in low knots) the compressor willn't activate...
When compressor is handy when you chase a ship(or try to pass by) to use your stern torp, to sink that ship.

I think the engine upgrade is original as in WWII.... all it's to save fuel.

I remember when i start with SHIII with U-1 type boat, and had a mission to AN14, that U-1 type used half a tank of fuel even i setted all the time at slow-ahead...
But i never upgraded the engine of the U-1 because i was saving reown for a VII type...

and the same story with batteries, that some batteries for the VII charging quicker than normal, is also cheating... specialy when it's summer(long daylight and lesser darkness), is quicker-charger would be handy to charging up the battery quicker when it become sunrise... and time to dive...

Now i am in Mission 6(april 1940), it's handy to add a quick-charger battery because it's summer soon...., so i am planning to add a Type 800 battery for my VII...

Doing some reading the other night, and came across some info regarding some engine mods that were made by using a compressed form of hydrogen peroxide to inject with the diesel. They could then run the diesels submerged, no need for oxygen, at a pace of about 20 knots.

The problem was the price of the hydrogen peroxide, and the containment methods required to keep it under pressure.
