This is just it. It is tragic that he has left his family while so very young, but this is a potential consequence when you bait dangerous animals for a living.

I wonder if he was "baiting" the stingray when this happened or whether it's just something that happened to the guy you'd least expect it to.

Local (Australian ) "expert" on rays, commented on TV tonight that he'd only heard of 2 fatalities due to a ray sting, and that he'd never seen one get agro enought to use it. Somethings fishy... er, I mean, not quite right here.

From what i can gather a stingrays barb will be used when its frightened . It was in shallow water so he was probably close over the top of it . My father knew this guy that had a scar in his calf muscle about an inch across . It went from one side of his calf and out the other . Maybe irwin was trying to ride it or something stupid . R.I.P croc hunter .

****.

I Really Liked this Guy and his Shows. Oh Well...
It just had to end this way. If you always do something Dangerous, it has to get you someday. It's even so with the Best Lone-Wolf assault troopers who Clear whole Bukers alone, someday something gets them.

Anyway, he rocked, and he was cool. I will miss you you Crazy dude!

When I first read the headlines, I assumed he was killed by a crocodile, but then I read the story. His enthusiasm for wildlife will be missed.

Well wishes to Terry and family.

What a bummer. His TV show was good, his subway commercials sucked though, but he was a good man with a good heart and truely loved animals. He will be missed!

From the latest news reports:
Quote:
Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.

"He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat at the time.
Worked as advertised.

If you're referring to the incident itself, yes it's tragic.

If you were commenting on my remark, I'm not making fun of him. He performed death-threatening stunts where things like this were exactly what should have happened.

Thats a shame. I used to watch his shows all the time when i was younger. At least he died doing what he loved.
