Why..simply keep both installed..problem solved.
I am not saying SH4 will make me stop playing SH3, I am saying the german subs are alot more appealing than the US ones.

Hi Neal...

Good interview. Many thanks for the news.

If you have the oportunity of a new one, can you ask about two things ?

1]

What about Thermal Layers and BathyThermograph Modelation ?

Reading the Dev. Team response to Henk Wissink, Nederlands ... they did not made any mention to Thermal Layers as a factor affecting active or pasive sonars.

That means this feature is not modelled ?

2]

What about the Whiz Wheel wich was attached to the back of real WW2 american periscopes ? Will it be modelled ?

Thanks a lot in advance.... Red.

Well if they do cock things up ( UBI ) we ( the modding community ) should be able to fix a few things like in SHIII, i just hope they release a polished FULL release of the game instead of what they did with SHIII..

Why, WHY ! Its as bloody obvious as the nose on your face. All SH4 will be is a tarted up version of SH3, and we all know how SH3 turned out. Instead of just drooling over the looks, read between the lines. Most of what we (the community) wanted to be included in SH3 still wont be in SH4. And on top of all that I still dont see us getting any bloody decent tools to mod the damn thing, so its back to square 1.

I dont consider it a new game but SH3 patched and updated and shoved in the pacific, and thats all.

No AI sub's - again, no true interiors, no choice of side to play (single play), no ability use all Allied/Axis surface uints in multiplay (moding community MAYBE able to do something about this, if we are lucky, but i dont have high hopes - see subs bit), limited to what units we can use (subs - since no1 yet has been able to add a new PCO in SH3, see no reason SH4 will be any different, ohh we have the odd new sub yes, BUT it has to replace another sub, not add), limited AO, 10 - 1 it still going to be limited users online (8 players only). Hell we dont even get to play the whole damn time frame of WWII, just the yank part, for what its worth. Why cant we get Commonwealth subs out of Australia early and then Tx to a US base and sub, if ppl so desired, I see no valid reason why not.

So what do we get for $100.00AU, some pretty new models with higher poly count's ( read ppl need new Vid card at best, new PC at worst), with tarted up skins, mission types that SHOULD have been in SH3 but they were to damn greedy to include, so now they will to induce you to buy, and a bunch of useless radio crap that gets turned off because its annoying, whoppeee......NOT!

I agree...with people posting problems having GW with low Fps..atleast with GW you can use the stock sea floor and such..with SH4 you wont have that luxury ..so new graph cards and or new pc's/ memory WILL be needed for those said people to be able to play SH4

Well, Gibbs, some of "we (the community)" were quite happy with SH3 and appreciate the big step forward it was from SH2, Aces, and SS2.

I imagine you won't be playing SH4

The only thing I am sort of looking forward to is the Multiplay. I just hope its not as pathetic as SH3 was in that regard. And since I never played the earlier versions of SH be it SH1, SH2, Aces, and SS2 or whatever but only SH3, I dont see anything remarkable to SH4.

Plus another thing, did you even think to ask about the planes, so they actualy fly an fight an act like real planes instead of muppets on LSD. Or the ability for AI to use Torpedo's (at least on CA's, CL's, DD's and Torpedo Boats/Gun Boats let alone on Torpedo Bombers). Or maybe all weapons to be able to shoot their real ranges, sensors that work like they should, be they for subs or surface units, hell will they even get the bloody type and placements correct. Will all mast on subs actual WORK instead of just being eye candy. All these things are just the tip of the iceburg.

So yeah in retrospect, no I dont see any great improvement to SH4 over SH3, I wonder why!

Ok, I understand now. Mate, you really should get a copy of Gato or SS2 and see how far things have come.

Subsims have probably come along way since those two - I haven`t played them - but thats not the point here. Have subsims come along way since SH3?

I am not blown away from what the dev team presents, but I`m not as pessimistic as Gibbs either.

I've got admit I was rather underwhelmed by what I read. I doubt I'll be shelling out in the early days and will probably wait until I can pick it up in the bargain bin.

I'm not saying that there is nothing positive, but it looks like a lazy attempt at cashing in on something that is already selling well for them.

From what I can see now ,SHIV looks more like ,say,a SH3 1.8 or something like that,or perhaps an addon. It is however very early in developement, and many many things can change untill the game is finally out. This can happen to all games. You can end up with almost another game than the first press release/screens you get.
Many improvements have been made over SH3 ,but too little to have the same impact it did on release.
I however look forward to playing it and hope the devs will now have enough time to make the game what we all want it to be!

I have been looking forward to going back to the Pacific, but I have a few comments:

Quote:
"SH4 Dev Team: The best thing about a simulation title is that the amount of sales tends to remain constant each month. SHIII sells well even one year after its release. We estimate Silent Hunter 3 sold over 300,000 copies worldwide."
300,000? I had not realized SH III was so successful. Hopefully, we will see more naval sims.

Quote:
"Subsim: Which class of US subs are planned to be included?

SH4 Dev Team: The main types of subs we’re putting in are P-class, Salmon, Tambor and Gato. Obviously, the variations of these classes will be represented in detail, as with SH3.
no S-boats? no Balao class?

comon guys its too early to point on the negative sides of the game

and Gibs, if Sh3 is tarded in ur eyes...why do you play it then?

We have to be patience and as soon some SHIV beta or Demo comes out try it.. so you can taste in place of reading stuff and debate about something that isnt reliable yet.

always know Do Not expect all the desires to be put into an game by Developers...if you want SHIV has all the features that we asked we can wait till 2010 before it comes out.

So I'll wait for some piece of software first before I decide to buy the full version or not.
