Default USA - Eastern Seaboard.....U-Boat Patrol Tactics

I'm sorry to say that I'm not that knowledgable about the patrol tactics that the German U-Boats used when patrolling the Eastern Seaboard of the US. What are the best hunting spots for warships other than destroyers. Right now I feel like I'm tripping over them. I'm in my third patrol in the U-802, a Type IXC. Current date of this patrol is May 25, 1942. I'm currently just southeast of Halifax. Any helpful hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Offhand id say your not going to find any warships other then DD's and armed trawlers. I do know in Unfied campaign theres a task force that orginates somwhere south of NY, and runs through the straights between the Eastern florida coast and the bahamas, rounds florida, skips the gulf of mexico i think, and heads down towards panama. At least, thats as near as i can descern from the reports ive gotten about them.

Most of the merchant traffic which traverses the whole length of the eastern seaboard, is closer inshore up on the continental shelf in about 20-30 meters of water. If you hate shallow water as much as i do, DB98, and the sector just northh of it is a good spot to frequent.

I think the waters NE of New York, towards halifix, but SE of halifax is somtimes productive as well.

I read somewhere that if you want to bag a liner or two, there's a route for them going from Halifax to Liverpool.

And no, I haven't gotten any there yet. lol I'm in the middle of raiding Curacao in my Type IXB.

That's a good one. A target rich environment if ever there was one. Waters nice and deep right up to the harbour. I hit it in early 1943 and got four tankers!

If your waiting off Halifax the liners come in from the SSE, about 30km of the coast, this goes on till 43', but you also intercept convoys around here as well. BF 13 or 15 NW coner is other place to intercept Liners.

Good and good hunting

It was good hunting! LOL Okay, results from raiding Curacao are as follows: 3x T3 sunk (couldn't believe it myself until I actually looked at my patrol log), 1x T2, 1x C2 sunk. And I looked at my latest patrol orders this morning...BDU's sending me to the Arctic. They always send me somewhere unproductive after a successful patrol, it never fails. lol

Look for the main passageways north of Curacao, turning NW towards the Keys. I've had a bit of single merchant (cough) hunting there. Otherwise, the best hunting ground, in my mind, is where the St. Lawrence meets the atlantic. Huge convoys, Liners, etc. Lush, abundant tonnage.
