However - 8 weeks is a very long patrol (in my opinion) in a VIIB. Last patrol I ran till I was almost out of fuel, and the patrol was ~4 weeks.
I find my average in a VII is about 35 days, depending on port, grid, weather and frequency of contacts. My record for a type VII is 108 days, has anyone done a longer type VII patrol without milkcow?

I'll never let go of my speedy little VIIB.
My type IXC goes at 21kts flank speed, with the MAN upgrade. So did my older IXB.

Never gone that long - also - there's a big difference between VIIB and VIIC. Can't remember exactly, but I think a VIIB is like 4/5 VIIC in terms of fuel. I try to keep my patrols short - less risk. Time spent roaming around at sea risking air attack. Especially when you have to spend the days under (>42), I'd rather get out there, find a convoy, rip the sh&T out of it with my whole payload, and get back asap. I'm always eager to get back to port and check for new technology.

That's never happened for me (NYGM TW, RuB 1.45 prior). My IX class boats always top out around 18 or 19max. I remember being so disappointed with them. I think there's a difference as to whether you start with the boat, and upgrade it yourself, or whether you buy it upgraded (i.e. late war).

Have to try them again though because that would make them more appealing.

The VIIB, fully upgraded (by player) has an underwater speed, light sea, of 5kts at 1/3rd. That's practically silent, and FAST. She's so nimble.

VIIB has a shallower crush depth as compared to a VIIC, but has slighlty more battery and fuel capacity then a VIIC. Also the VIIB has an 8 kt underwater top speed as compared to the VIIC's 7.6 kts.

The VIIC is quicker to dive, has a deeper crush depth, has a tad less fuel and battery capacity then the VIIB, but also has more tower upgrades avialable to it. THe VIIB will never mount any heavy flak, the VIIC will.

Also, im faily sure the IX boats are faster then the VII boats on the surface, on vanilla that may be incorrect. But if your running any mods that adjust the sub's statistcs to their correct value, the IX boats should faster then VII's on the surface.

Believe me Keelbuster, you don't want what I have. I use a wheelchair and sometimes I need oxygen. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. One good thing is I don't get out to get in contact with people who have the flu or other such things, so that's a + in my book. I'm either playing SH3 stock with about 40 mods installed or resting because my system is too weak to handle the day.

Btw, I need a War Badge and a Front Clasp that I can put beside the medals I've received, anyone have one that they can send me?

robj - pardon - bad humour here. I'm sorry to hear of your condition. I'm just so badly addicted to SH3 that I need a reason to take a year or so off of work and stay at sea.

I'll be damned. Do you know how much deeper yer VIIC can go than a VIIB? Yesterday I crush-tested my VIIB and she began to go at around 230, I think.

No problem, I took no offence to what you said, and I can certainly understand you thinking. I just LOVE playing SH3, even though my thinking is not very fast when I come across a convoy but I manage to get a couple. Wish I was fast enough to do a bow shot though, I think that would be great.

You havent spent much time fiddling with the sub's sim files have ya?

Vanilla/stock/umodded i think the VIIC is only like 10 to 20 meters deeper, tops. Sadly alot of the stock game settings, are in my opinion, way off.

i've revamped/fix the boats on my game, extensively. I suppose one of these days ill acutally release some of the mods ive done. I mod alot, i just dont release anything. I figure many of these tweaks are easily done, or someone else has already zipped up said tweaks and posted them for D/L already.
