Sinking a carrier with one torp is possible, both in the game and in real life, but it's hard to at the best of times.

It is possiable in the game for sure. I sunk up on a small task force. 1 bogue escort carrier and 3 destroyers with it. Got within 1500M of the carrier, sent a fish. Impact, Carrier exploded. 1 shot one Kill

The nice thing about the two-shot routine on a T3 is that you shoot the first, keel-busting fish and wait. You may get lucky and she goes down. If not finish it off with the second impact shot. I don't see the problem with a T3 taking two shots to destroy though. Still a lot of tonnage and renown for not much ammo.

If you really have your heart set on the single torp shot/kill you must shoot at the props or rudder then wait for good weather. A The keel shot is no guarantee and the T3 may keep sailing for days even if heavily damaged. Well I guess you could do that but you'd want to attack far from an enemy port to cope with the long spells of bad weather this game tortures us with. Then surface and use the gun.
