In the set key program (Get at http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ in the general section) to assign your own custom shortcut keys look for (Sonar Ping) and set it to {Crew and what ever key you want}. Then in game when you come across a ship go to the hydrophone and find the target you want then use the shortcut you made for (Sonar Ping) and it will give you the exact distance from the target every time you hit your Short cut key,
However it wont give you the bearing and if you go back to the Hydrophone you will lose the target, but you can go deep and use the ping to find out how far the target is from you at any time as long as you are not on the hydrophone. This is real nice trick to know if you are being pursued by a Destroyer, but you can only ping 1 target at a time so if 2 or more are after you then you can only keep an eye on one
Thanks for the information. A question, do you know where I can obtain the various emblems to put on my conning tower?

You should be able to find that at http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ also...Good Luck!
I am on patrol at the moment, when I get back into port I will get back to you about where and how to install and then how to setup the short cut key.

Well, I have downloaded setkey but I don't know if I'm intelligent enough (thinking wise) if I can set it up and I've never used the sonar to find a target. Robert.

Without accurate range information, you can't estimate target speed. If you can't estimate target speed (and you haven't had the god-send radio report), then you are forced to take a shot 90abeam, <600m, basically over open sights (~0 gyro). Either that or fire 4 torpedoes in a spread to get one or two hits. Or am I wrong?

You are precisely correct. Which is why I described my method of dead reckoning 90AOB-700m-gyro zero attack. I don't even bother with anything else for the sake of time consumption. ALTHOUGH if I can get into position for an attack on a military convoy (as opposed to merchant convoy) then I will apply all of the tried and true methods, with stadimeter at the ready.

Thanks. I looked at the instruction sheet and it is "dutch" to me. I installed the sound trainer and I'm no good at that. So, I'm afraid this "setKey" is going to give me problems, but if I knew how to do it, I would certainly give it a try. I'm sure there is someone out there who has set his up I am on a patrol at the moment and I'm taking on a large convoy. I already sunk the lead V&W Destroyer which came after me. now I'm trying to wait for the convoy to come to me, I am at periscope depth and a darn Clemson Destroyer keeps annoying me and that warship is a bugger to deal with. Taking on this large convoy, which by the way, I was informed about by the "Daily reports" I installed. I haven't even made it to my patrol area yet. It is pitch black out. One thing I'm not quite used to is how to properly use the TDC, but I guess I'll catch onto it. Most of my kills have been by luck.

robj250 -- I think you quoted the most recent thread post, and not the post of the guy who mentioned above the setkey. Sorry I can't help you with the setkey issue, I don't use that mod.

Thanks anyway. I'm sure there is someone out there that had used setkey for that purpose and tell me how to set it up to find the range. Robert

Aye. In late war it's impossible to get that close to convoys. I think you have to take the long shot, which can require stad readings by UZO or scope. On the other hand, in late war there are FaT torpedoes. I really want to learn how to use these properly because they should seriously simplify the man targetting sit'n later in the war. Two things I haven't mastered (nor practiced much) with FaT - one is getting the search direction/angle correct - my FaTs tend to go against the convoy rather than wind up their target. Second, getting the FaT RunToEnable distance - it's the distance the torpedo will travel before getting to the expected impact point, which is different than all the ranging estimates you've taken before. Is there a way to get this directly, or do i need to practice my trig?
