As for lighthouses. This is 'mine' at the nearby port of IJmuiden:

Light @53 m above mid level between high tide and low tide.

Yeah, I know here, she is a beauty!

What images?? In my opinion the coolest lighthouse in Finland is the Bengtskär light house. Scandinavias tallest lighthouse its 52 meters above the sea.
Its a tourist atraction and has its own web pages. http://www.bengtskar.fi/

I love that Finnish architecture! It always struck me as very appropriately northern-looking, but at the same time not grim. The Finns always seemed to know how to build

My thoughts exactly.

The buildings have a great mystique and tough look. I like 'em a lot

Not too many notable churches around these parts, but here's the local Lighthouse. Chicago Harbor Light. The Coast Guard rented it out to some rich guy after it was automated in the 60's and 70's, but he got tired of the isolation (it's on the end of a free-standing breakwater). Heckuva view though...

It's high on my list (right after Germany and the Czech Republic, which I'm hoping to visit in the next year if I'm lucky).

Technically, according to you I've been in Finland many times already, every year until I was 14 in fact (Karelia. That's where my Finnish ancestors were from, too) :P

Not my current area, but here's my favorite:

St. Isaac's Cathedral, St. Petersburg
(the largest Orthodox church in the world, I believe)

Several of the mosaics in this picture (a couple in the circular row on the top) have been made by my great-great-grandfather, a remarkable artist in his own right (and, ironically, later a high-ranking Bolshevik). :hmm:

Kind of reminds me of the Helsinki Cathedral, its Lutheran though.
  • We have Ortodox one also, the Uspensk Cathedral.

My local masjid near my home is just a plain building like any other built in the 70's as such. So nothing special here. I do however love visiting churchs and mosques that were built way back in history not to mention castles and stately homes of which there are plenty in abundance here in the UK. I have been a member of the Australian and now the British National trust for many years. I guess ever since I went with my mum to see a performance of Handel's Messiah at Adelaide Cathedral in Australia back in 1991 I have loved the architecture of churchs. Here are some shots of some I took whilst in Paris last year. Roma also had some great churchs.
