Hmm seems people think I was being serious.

Thing is will it mutate into a human to human transmitable virus?

Quite possibly, but when? If you read all the stuff about bird-flu going back over the last couple of years then according to various experts it was supposed to have already mutated and we'd be suffering from a pandemic. It hasn't happened.

Also the precautions are quite simple. It seems that everyone has forgotten the "coughs and sneezes spreads diseases" saying and thus a lot of people don't cough into hankies, or they spit in the street.

As for my comment above. It was harsh, and I will admit I did write it to see what kind of response would be written. Thing is pandemics are natures extreme population control. These things seem to rise up when populations are closely packed and hygeine and health conditions are not the greatest.

If it mutates, could I catch it? Maybe. I have no intention of doing so but that will depend on the roll of the dice.

Thing is simple measures such as coughing into a hanky and not spitting in the street are effective ways of combatting the spread of disease.

When I lived in Russia I used to think the Russians over reacted when they wanted me to stay home because I had flu like symptoms or was coughing with some nasty infection. I now see the point, it is to stop spreading disease. Along these lines is annoys the hell out of me when I see mothers dragging their kids round the shop when these children are obviously not well and are coughing all over the place and don't cover their mouth or anything.

Of course I don't want to see people wiped out, but if it happens it happens. The best we can do is to try not to put ourselves in the situation.

As for bird-flu even the pandemic talk, I still believe the media is over hyping it.

If it’s going to happen well, today next year, ten years from now so what.

As you say why work your self up just live your life.

It would have seemed more logic to demand the country where bird flu first originated :hmm:

Anyway....all this damn hysteria already happened with the SARPS or whatever it was called some years ago, and thankfully it didn't become massive. Will HN51 be? Who knows...the only thing I'm sure about is we at Europe have a better public health system and resources to deal with it than most of Asia. So we are as prepared as we can...al the rest is worrying innecessarily .

Tower's ravens are kept indoors -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...on/4734402.stm

And this one-

Man bites chicken to make news in Italy Tuesday February 21, 08:29 PM

ROME (AFP) - An Italian news-reader bit into a piece of roast chicken live on his nightly news programme, saying he was demonstrating that consumers had nothing to fear from bird flu in cooked poultry.

"I just want to show Italians that as far as I'm concerned, you have nothing to fear from eating chicken," Lamberto Sposini told millions of viewers of his prime time programme on Canale 5 before biting into a leg of chicken.

Italy has recorded a total 16 cases of the deadly strain of bird flu since it was first announced to have killed several wild swans two weeks ago.

Despite being detected to date only in wild birds, the discovery has led to a 70 per cent drop in poultry consumption in Italy and threatened 30,000 jobs.

Italy has asked the EU for aid for its stricken poultry industry.

This reminds be of the time a Conservative Government Minister eating a hamburger years ago when we had a break out of BSE here in the UK. :hmm:

What bugs me is the countries asking the EU to bail out the faltering poultry industry.

Now before I jump on my high horse did the EU compensate the UK over BSE and Foot and mouth when it decimated many farms.

If yes then I'll go no further, if no then sort it out yourselves.
