I got two questions for you guys:
First: I´ve got a 19" SONY LCD Monitor and running SHIII at 1280x1024 resolution, Windows XP SP1. Game crashes at startup if I try a resolution higher than that (I am using dxd3.dll and Application Compatibility Tool). Is there a way to run, say at 1600x1280? Second: Because of my monitor, I got a certain degree of image stretching (image appears a little compressed from the sides). Is there a way to correct this? I´ve tried running at 1280x960 but the compression remains. Could it be that the monitor automatically adjust the horizontal and the vertical ? (geez, it sounded like THE OUTER LIMITS) |

1. Most likely if it's a 19" LCD monitor, the max resolution is going to be 1280x1024. Concerning LCD's, you usually have to go to at least a 20" monitor before you can get the higher resolution.
2. The crashing is odd. I'm upping my rez to 1280 on an LCD and the games never looked better. No crashes nothing. Are you sure you did the modification properly? There are other things you have to do if you've got XP, at least that's what my instructions told me. I would go over the instructions again, of see if someone has a copy from the Community Manual, that's what I used. 3. I'm not getting the texture compression either, I would just double check you're not exceeding your monitor's resolution specs. |

Thanks jbt and Pablo. The CTD only occurs when I set a resolution higher than 1280x1024.
SHIII runs OK at 1280x1024, only with some image stretching. I will try disabling the autoadjust feature in my monitor and go over the instructions for resolution change again in case I missed something. Regards, |

No go. The only way I´ve found to correct stretching is to manually adjust the screen horizontal settings. I don´t know why but I haven´t found a way to adjust the vertical in my SONY LCD 19" monitor.
Nevertheless I have to readjust screen size when I exit SHIII so I can have all my desktop in full view. I wonder if this is an issue with all LCD´s monitors and SHIII. I have a Toshiba laptop with an extra wide screen and SHIII images also appear stretched. My guess is that the origin of this problem is the difference in ratio between horizontal and vertical screen dimensions when compared with CRT monitors and I don´t think there is a way around this. What puzzles me is that this does not occur with other games like Flight Simulator 9. JC |
