IX has more hit points.

I think the VII hasa 250 whereas the IX has 300.

OH yea, since this has come up.

I wont lie though, commanding an IX boat after april 1943 is hard. Currently in june 44, and ran into the infamous Capt Walker HK group when leaving the bay of biscay. It was like playing the U505 mission only worse. Deck gun, snorkel, and attack persicope destroyed, but i survived. Enroute to patrol area despite damages.

Deck guns are GOOD things to have, even if you dont use it. If a DC lands in its general vacinity it absorbs the brunt of the explosion, saving your hull.

A very interesting point.Do you know if removing the deck gun in the game improves in any way the vessel's submerged speed as in real life submarines?Because if not i don't see why remove it.

Thank you again.

For the most part Hydrodynamics are not modled in SH3. The only factors that influence subs underwater performance deal with the Main BT FLood rate, general underwater drag as related to hull, hydroplanes and rudder and are defined in the Subs Sim file. (and are adjustable via TT's Tweaker).

So feel free to slap on the UFlak conning tower on an VIIC, or deck gun on any boat, it wont effect you in the least. It will only help. Kind of a shame really.

I thought so.Thank you.Yes,i would have enjoyed some more detail, like some control on dive planes or more engine control. But it is a good simulator for a game.

Good hunting......

The 2nd, 10th, and 12th flotillas are the long range flotillas.

The 1st, 7th, 11th, 29th, are short to mediem range.

So if you want an IXB early, you'd want to go to the 2nd flotilla.
Also (edit) the 2nd is a good float to go to if you want to beat a drum on the US east coast in 42

Dunno much about the 10th, i think they go to the south atlantic more (2nd goes there too though)
Which one gets the XXI first though... I forgot...

Without any modding at all,

11th flotilla, 1944. ( i think)

By changing just the availablity date in your basic.cfg file ,

11th flotilla, 1943.

Thats the earliest you can get it, with the minimal amount of tinkering. If you want it any earlier then that, its a subject for the mod forum.

The IXB is a great boat but use it wisely. All those extra torpedos come in handy. And 2 tubes in the stern are a blessing too.

If you don't want the long patrols just change the Grid to what you want with SHIII Commander.

BTW, I've put into Las Palmas to resupply twice now from the Corrientes in January of 41. 1 day the first time and 3 days the second to give the crew some R&R. Sank 2 Warships, 2 Large and 1 Medium cargo ship, last time out from there, in CG87. Was even hit by a Small Cargo ship but suffered no damage. IX is tough. LOL
