Those sound like good tactics. Thanks for the tip [/quote]

Can someone point me to the mod that reduces depth charge radius to 15m? I have looked in U-Boot.realsimulation.com as well as Subsim. Think it will help with evading those pesky aircraft!

I don't recognize this mortal patrols at all. What version are you running with (1.4?) and what mods do you use?

It is in Jungmans "SonarDC_fix(1.4ready).zip"
You find in Terrapin's sitehttp://mpgtext.net/u-boot/index.php?...id=5&Itemid=42

Good luck

Heffalump: good advice. I started a VIIC with a snorkel, and found it much easier to manage. That doesn't help U-195 (IXD2) who is now rusty and full of salt, and who never had that luxury.

About your convoy attack method: do you feel that FaT's are the best weapon? I feel like it's kind of a random attack - you don't know who you're gonna hit, and hence can't appropriately choose depth for keel shots. Do you score many kills (or just disables) with FaTs after they start the latter pattern?

There is a mod to reduce aircraft ranges, made by Gizzmoe I think.

---snip from readme-file---

Less air patrols for SH3 1.4!!!

I have changed the 1.4 planes back to 1.3 level ("MaxRadius" in the cfg files). Some had more than twice the range of 1.3. Download the file below and unpack it to sh3\data\air.

http://home.arcor.de/gizzmoe/files/L...ls_for_1.4.rar

I gave the new Wellington the range of the B24 and the P38 has now the same original range as the FW200.
---snip---

I've been using this patch ever since SH3 v1.4 patch came out, but there's still -plenty- of enemy aircraft to deal with, especially when 1943 rolls around.

You might want to DL and try this mod. If you think aircraft ranges are not great enough, just revert back to original (backed-up) v1.4 aircraft files. It's not a 'save-all' for late-war patrols but it helps.

How and where can I set the auto-response because I am having just as bad a time as Keelbuster. :hmm:

When the WO first announces the contact(planes) you`ll have the opputunity to choose one of three actions:

ENGAGE TARGET(S)
MAINTAIN COURSE
DIVE TO PERISCOPE DEPTH

....well, something like that...you`ll also be given the opportunity to make one of these three your default choice. I hope this helps. You didn`t mention your realism setting.

If i remember correcly its called "Sensor_pak"

Its also included one of the hollywood damage mods, the same one that reduces depth charge blast radius from 40 to 15 meters. I dont remember which one, you'll have to check the readme file to make sure its the correct hollywood damage mod.

Thanks much - I'm just looking for the snorkel fix at this moment - I've lots of mods and I'm sort of in a holding pattern (enjoying a really good career in a IXC) on putting more big mods in.

I'm now in Jan 44 and have noticed that planes do not discover you when snorkeling at periscope depth.
