This stuff just fascinates me. Thanks for sharing the sounds!

When I heard the shrimp for the first time in Dangerous Waters, I was convinced that my sound card was on the fritz!

Best to look 'em straight in the eye - dont let that stare from the plate put you off.

These sounds have been a 'feast' for the ears. Thanks MS - but you French are masters of the culinery
pursuits and I am just a little worried that some of these shrimp and lobster noises may have been produced
in the kitchens of a four star cuisine.
Firm evidence above when I reported that the whale call was missing and there was a delay.
Now that was very significant . N'est pas ?

You got to admit Kapitian those Damphne’s could put a lot of torpedoes in the water at one time! Almost at much as an Akula II.

noisy small and under equipped ?
you better refresh your links...

look at the last one => the scorpene
one of the 3 best (I didn't said THE best even if I was close to ) diesel/electric/AIP submarine of the world

http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/scorpene/

http://www.dcn.fr/us/produits/sous_marin_attaque.html#3

Able to fire old torpedo, present or futures ones (like black shark)

And MESMA AIP system is the most silenced AIP system of the world with the HDW.
The scorpene is faster, deeper, more silenced and had better sensor than any KILO ever had. He also can stand 4 times longer under water. With top technology aboard (look at combat system)

Finally, do you know THE country, in the world, who actually have a great experience AND production capabilities on nuclear AND conventionnal submarines ?
Russian had, but they don't have any more money for research, development and production ... just look at their fleet at this time ...
Only France, in the world, are in the top on both area.

lets talk about SSBN now : what country have the most modern and silenced SSBN ? France, with the latest SNLE Le Triomphant class =>

http://www.dcn.fr/us/produits/sous_marin_nucleaire.html

much more modern than the Ohio class.
We have 3 and we will have 5, for a complete and realistic nuclear dissuasion with the most modern and silenced SSBN of the world.
Of course you can argue (with reason) nuclear dissuasion in not a priority now, but this is another problem.
The fact is we have the best SSBN of the world, because it's simply the most modern and stealthy one.

Concerning the SSN, it is true our Amethyste class are quite old now, even with upgrade, and not at the top of the list of SSN.
688i, Seawolf, Akula are above this level.
but the Amethyste come in third position, with the Trafalgar, FAR above the chineese SSN, and the next generation of french SSN, Barracuda class, will be close to the standard of a virginia class ...
=>
http://www.dcn.fr/us/produits/sous_marin_attaque.html#1

The main thing we miss, is an ADCAP/65cm equivalent torpedo, with long range and high capabilities.
But it's not so bad when you think french is 1/5 of the population of the US and spend the 1/4 per people that american do for defense (this give us a defense budget of 1/20 of the american one).
And on this stuff, we are making ALL alone (french development and production), from the sub to the missiles, by the sensor and electronics.

So we have actually the most stealthy SSBN of the world, one of the best diesel/electric (only for export because we just use nukes on our navy) and we will have soon (2008) one of the best SSN, of the next generation

It's not because Sonalysts choose to make the Amethyste the most louder sub of the game it is like this in the real world.
France are the 3rd nation in nukes submarine, behind 2 giants, and could come to the second place in some times.
And France is also one of the best nation in production of top technology diesel/electric.

noisy small and under equipped ?
I think you really better refresh your links, Kapitain ...

MESMA is cool:-

Quote- '' To lessen the submarine's vulnerability, the vessel can be equipped with an air independent propulsion system such as:
the Stirling engine, the fuel cell, the closed circuit diesel and the odule d'Energie Sous-Marine Autonome (MESMA) system .

The MESMA anaerobic system, in which heat in the primary circuit is produced by burning ethanol with oxygen,
can be easily installed either at the start of the submarine's construction or in a later modernisation
to convert the CM-2000 to an AM-2000 build standard. With the MESMA system the AM-2000 submarine
can stay down in underwater patrol three times longer than the CM-2000. Its performance features remain
the same in all other respects, except that the length increases to 0m and its submerged displacement
to 1.870t (against the 61.7m and the 1,565t of the CM2000). ''

The Black Shark (great name) has superior two-way communication.

Quote:- ''The Black Shark is also equipped with an advanced sensor capability, allowing the target classification
function even in very complex and unfavorable underwater scenarios. ''

Please not an another :"Mine is bigger than you"
useless because we didn't have the real data, we compare different technology and generation.

this is a topic about real sound submarine so if you want to make a comparative one go to strategypage the best site where they comapre what
is uncomparable.

I think the Trafalgar has the Amethyste beat since she can launch the Tomahawk missile; making it a very useful asset in the types of wars the US and UK are fighting now. Also the Trafalgar has a better top speed. Also I think the Victor III, Sierra I/II, Swiftsure and Sturgeon SSNs all top the Amethyste. But the French should take some pride in that the Amethyste is one of (if not the) smallest SSN around.

Personally I hope SCS makes a playable Scorpene in a future add on. Its one handy little boat to have.

Your right MS - weve drifted in your thread from the gentle, puzzling and captivating subject of sound
to a 'New World. v 'Old World' confrontation.

Get us back on track again asap with some more please.

Forgive my Rosbif joshing - some of us are still smarting about that Norman William.T.B. . . Bad losers.

Even in the summer doldrums you have created an audience now keep it.

french SSN rubis class are the smallest attack submarines around that are nuclear they are noisey not as noisey as some boats like the HAN or XIA but still not quite there in terms of quietness

as for the SNLE (SSBN) they still do not match the quietness of the vanguard class and the vanguard cuts close to the ohio class in noise

the new astutes are to be as quiet if not quieter than the current seawolf class making them the second quietest SSN on earth

as for the trafalgar class the rubis makes more noise cant dive as deep or go as fast as these british boats making them the weaker link

the french SNLE programme is not overly amazing infact they just like every other boring western submarine simple plain and down right ugly there is nothing like waking up to a typhoon that id do anyday
