Welp, I'm out of ideas, still crashing even after using a different GWX 3.0 installer, and running it in administration mode, and win xps2/3.

Hi LuteFute sorry to hear your having trouble with Your Steam install of SH3/GWX
same for me and Onkel Neal Stevens C-in-C Subsim also ive reinstalled my steam version of SH3 it works fine. But when i place the 7 GWX bins files and the GWX.Exe it installs but when GWX fires up it is Paused and i cant unpause it Grrr. My steam install is installed in Program Files X86 so uninstalled steam and reinstalled on drive C:/ outside Program Files X86 then reinstalled SH3 and GWX still same result looks like steam version of SH3 dont like you moding it any more. But theres another option i can send you two copies of SH3 on Dvd copied from this original below PM me your home address and ill post you the discs Thursday Sir the dvd's are starforce free @Subsim the Pride runs deep we look after our own Salute Sent 2 copies to Doolar three weeks ago he got them Monday

Recent installs on Steam versions seem to be causing issues.
I am looking closely at the problem. If it comes down to it? I'll install Steam and find a solution. Never did trust those people at Steam! |

Steam tends to have trouble sometimes with old games, pair that with Windows 10, and old games get confused as to where they are.

Unfortunately yeah, this is looking like a steam issue, I just tried it on another computer (My MacBook pro 2018 on Bootcamp), and it still crashed. One thing I haven't tried yet is removing SH3 out of Program Files (x86), however, Steam doesn't like letting its users play the game when they are out of their directory given by steam.

Welp, once more, no dice, I kept fiddling with this install method for 4 hours. Did it a total of four times on two computers to be sure, and it still crashes. Unfortunately, it was a waste of time. I'm gonna call it a day, and that physical copy offer blackswan42 is looking quite eye-catching ![]() Last edited by LuteFlute; 03-17-21 at 05:19 AM. Reason: typo |

blackswan40 sent me the Steam Silent Hunter 3 folder.
Of course it will not run on my system since I don't have Steam. Now. I replaced the SH3.exe with a non-Steam version and it runs fine. Downloading the GWX installer from my link above and will test that next. I have 1 question for Steam Users. In the base folder of SH3 is there another folder named SH3? If so dig into that and see if there is a main.cfg |
