It's strangly similar to the late minimalist sculptor John McCracken's "Fair" shown in a gallery in 2011

EDIT: I just read an article by an outdoor photographer who saw the monolith disassembled & removed and conversed briefly with the removal team who apparently did so to prevent tourist related ecological damage to an otherwise pristine site. Way too many vehicles and curious people were invading the site.
