In wartime, when torps run straight, ships zig like crazy. Yes, it makes getting a solution difficult.
Serpentine, for those who get the joke. Consider that unguided torpedo attack ranges are really short, like 1-2000 yards. Typically you need to get past the escorts and really close to the targets. And shoot lots of fish. That's why ww2 subs had 10 tubes. |
