The main problem with the GOP's backing off off-kilter, far-right candidates stems from their main money sources: extremely wealthy political conservative extremists. The party caters to the Koch Brothers, et al, out of fear of losing their great money sources. Until the GOP weans itself from the addiction to pimping out candidates for the uber-wealthy nut cases, they will continue to lose and, ultimately lose big...

There is nothing stopping you. I left the GOP and became an independent. It was easy.

The one advantage of being an independent is that you get to bitch about both parties. The disadvantage of being an independent is that you are rarely happy with the outcome.
