As the title says, I downloaded and installed:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1560 And it works well (the one for GFO 1.1 apparently needs 1.5 since I got a plethora of missing files errors trying that one) except for one odd glitch. Go to radar or sonar and hit the right mouse button to "back out" to the conning tower interior and get a black screen with "Camera out of sectors" in white text. Saving and reloading usually fixes it, but the right click brings it back again, sometimes the control room also black screens with the error message. Probably due to the free movement interior camera, I tried to duplicate the problem in stock 1.4 and can't, but pressing the F key in the stock game has no effect, it doesn't have a free interior movement feature. It's not a huge problem, easily avoidable just by never using the right mouse button to back out of a control station, but thought I'd mention it in case anyone else has the problem. Great mod otherwise. |

GFO and just about all the mods available today are made for the v1.5 game so you need that game version for it to work.
clayp optics is made for the v1.4 game so you need that game version for it to work. you CANNOT mix v1.5 and v1.4 mods together (with the rare exception) without all sorts of issues. mods for v1.4 use modded files from that game version and there is a lot more to it then a version number, the files are written to find different files and look in different pathways for those files. its not just about a few updated files, v1.5 changes the way the game works and runs as well as where files are stored and used. mixing files from different game versions is never a good idea, if you like clayp optics them PM him and ask how to make the same changes to the v1.5 filse so you get the same result without causing corruptions and errors in your game files |

Sniper, you may want to try the "MaxOptics IV for SH4 1.5" if you're using a 1.5 version of the game. It does the same type of visual changes to the views as ClayP's. I made his version specific for him, but released it in case anyone else wanted a 1.4 version.
It's possible that some other mod could be interfering with the optics mod.....I just don't know.

Can't find the original threads, but IIRC the only conflict between GFO 1.1 and SH4 1.4 was the references to additional ships that were added in 1.5. I have multiple copies of SH4 including one zipped original unmodified SH4 1.4 that I occasionally unzip to a new desktop folder for testing.
I'll do a file comparison and see if I can find a conflict, the one I got the glitch in is one I'm developing the replacement for Manilla Raid and Resupply (which affects only US_NavalBases.mis) and I can't remember if it has your original 1.4 GFO or the modified GFO 1.5 that I eliminated the new ships from. I'm hunting now to see if I have the original anyplace. I know everybody keeps saying I should upgrade to SH4 1.5, but I just don't see anything in it worth spending money on since I'm not interested in Das Boot. |

going from v1.4 to v1.5 is not the same as going from v1.2 to v1.3 to v1.4, with v1.5 they completely altered a lot of the game and how it works as well as renamed a lot of files |

SH4 V1.5 doesn't just add U boats but makes major changes to the Fleet boats as well and is well worth the money IMO. It's just a much better Fleet boat game and much better mods are available. You'll get more than your moneys worth if you like playing this game. ![]() Magic

Sniper, I loaded the ClayP's Optics onto my 1.4 version of the game, but couldn't get it do what problem you've described. I do admit there is no "Free Camera" with it.
I'm in your corner though in not seeing the need to move to version 1.5. I didn't like the idea of paying for something (the 5th patch for SH4) just to have the German's mess around in the Pacific!! Even if there are good things that come from it.....we shouldn't ever have to pay for a patch! The game was flawed, and still is, in many respects. We should never need to pay for a fix. I'm wondering something. If you go to the conning tower in a Gato or Balao class.....do you have gauges and dials? From the radar A-Scope screen (I know, the game calls the two screens opposite what they should be), the radar station on the left..... does the bearing dial above the screen not show? It looks blacked out on my 1.4 version. So does the helm's dials, to the front of the conning tower.

Nope, not seeing that. Also if I hit the F key in either the conning tower or control room I get a free roam, can use the arrow keys to move around when I have the mod installed. Main thing I really wanted was better magnification with the scope and TBT, so I just reverse engineered it and made my own mod without all the extras, that works fine every time.

Corporalspiffy, if you keep digging up year old posts, you'll stay a Corporal for the rest of your career!!
ClayP's Optic mod was made for a SubSim community member who needed to see the dials/views better with his old sore eye's. His "Avatar" from the forum is on the Captain's Desk picture within the mod. He's not been around much lately, I fear his health may have gotten the best of him. The "ClayP's Optics for SH 1.4" can be found HERE. It will work with the stock 1.4 game. There are several versions that will work with other mods made for a v1.4 game. You'll find them in the "Downloads" section of the forum. If your using v1.5 of the game, you should use "MaxOptics IV for SH 1.5". They both will increase the games views and enlarge the dials along the bottom tool bar, BUT you should know, the magnified views in the periscope are not in any way authentic. The mod is just eye candy.....it won't help in measuring with the Telemeter Divisions of the scope. There's no scale correction like in "Optical Targeting Correction". MaxOptics, or ClayP's version, just magnifies the scope's view to see better. It doesn't fix the Stadimeter, increasing the accuracy of it's findings. The Stadimeter is going to work the same as in the stock game. Yes, they are JSGME compatible. Enjoy it for what its worth.
