I don't think I'm that susceptible to becoming addicted to a single game, let alone a MMO. I mean I can get really into a game, play it hardcore for hours at a time, but that hardcore playing usually causes a burnout on the game I'm playing. If I'm playing a game to the point where it would be considered an addiction, then next week I'll probably have moved on and be playing something different.

Usually the only games that I actually continue playing in the long term are those that play almost a casual amount of, for example the only reason I'm still playing WoT regularly is that I only ever play a few battles at a time, surpassing a half-dozen battles in a day is pretty rare for me.

MMO wise I played WoW for a few months a couple times years ago but in the end I always end up hitting a brick wall where progression is a pain in the ass and I just end up saying **** it and stop playing. Eve kept me a long time but the major keeper for me was the people I was playing with, if I was flying solo I probably would of quit long before I did.

Ah, okay. Hmm, wonder if I should start playing it... Even though my strict policy is not to touch games with monthly fees.

I actually have 4 on my HD at the moment. WoW,SW:TOR,LOTRO and STOL. I go through phases though. Sometimes I bear down and play MMOs for weeks straight and other times I just screw around with other games. Right now I'm kinda messing around with Rise of Flight. I wish they would add some earlier era planes though.

On my hunter i had the Conqueror title early in the game when lvl cap was 70 then i went for the 100,000 pvp kills and got the 'Of the Horde' title, at 85 then i faction change to Alliance and now its 'Of the Alliance' title, got these titles on blizzard servers not private. But i have never been able to get Gladiator. Just not good enough or join arena teams where everyone quits gives up because we aren't doing so well. Son gets glad with his warrior and i been playing longer than him!

Anyhow loaded up my hunter the other night im on Oceanic server full of aussies, kiwis and asians. The oceanic servers are practically dead i prefer to play on US west servers ping is higher but playing with Americans is better. Us oceanic players are just moaners. So i might get a realm change back to Ticondrius US west. So much for me staying away from WoW the pull is getting to me, expansion is out next month. Oh no!

I really liked DAoC. I think the classes in that game were the most varied and interesting. But DAoC was a grind game and a particularly bad grind. I played D&D online and liked that especially since it is free.

WoW is the game that kept my interest for the longest. I closed my account to finish up my degree. I may get back into it. From a game-playing aspect WoW is still a good un.

Briefly I played City of Heros and I understand it has gotten a lot better but I don't think I will go back to it. But a very interesting concept.

The issue that I have with online games is that I prefer to play solo, which kinds defeats the purpose.

It is too bad there is not a single player version of WoW for us anti-social players.

But until I gradumacate, I can't afford the time requirements for online games.

I dropped my "addiction" to them a few years back. I mostly played EQII in a fairly large raiding guild but stopped playing about 5 years ago. I have tried a few since but nothing has made me want to stay with it very long.

In fact,Yes you can! I hear they taste like money with a hint of wasted time. Plus they all come with a side of player stupidity.

Don't go hating on me but here is the latest Mists of Pandaria video and i liked it! haha

Think back to the Warcraft 3 intro, this video is similar - WCIII orc, human battling it out, burning comes along and smashes them both. MoP - orc, human are battling it out, kung fu Panda shows up... well you know the rest.

Mists of Pandaria

Nope, I've never played one.

Do you know that you could have got a PhD, climb Mt. Everest or do a gazillion of other beneficial activities? You've wasted so much time...

Seriously now, I don't see any difference between an MMO and any other game. It's just a matter of how much time you want to devote to it.
Evil Blizzard takes your money away? Find a free MMO. Or stop playing. It's your choice.
Sure it's a carrot on a stick and it doesn't take a rocket science to discover that. Every game has its final aim. MMO games have them very, very, very away. It's business. I know people who played WoW for 1-2 hours a day and I know people who played 10-12. But it was their deliberate choice.
Player stupidity? Agreed. More than 2 years ago I almost failed my B.A because what I did was: 3 battlegrounds in a row, Alt+Tab to write 2 lines and delete 1, Alt+Tab for another 3 battlegrounds. But the danger comes with all sort of addictions and it's not MMO-specific.

OH i can. I can tell a HUGE difference. Where do i start? Hmmm..

Firstly, no social obligations. This comes in the way of guild, or anyone you normally group with. Case in point, Evercamp.. err i mean everquest. To put it simply, in that game, if you want to progress, you must group. Here, your player reputation comes into play. have a poor rep? Nobody wants to group with you, hence you don't progress. Have a good rep? You progress! How to get a good rep? Start a dungeon with a group, see it all the way through. Never bail and be good at your class. So you get locked into a group on two counts really. One, its hard to extricate yourself, if you die, you loose all your crap in a corpse retrevial. Also, if you bail, people will remember, and you won't be invited again. So basically, your chained to your desk.

Second. You can save the game anytime you want and walk away. See point 1.

Third, No huge time sink is required.

Fourth. Don't like something about the game? Mod it!

Fifth, The game is yours. No monthy fee, no BS Free to play plan where you end up spending more on small things then if you had a flat monthy fee.

In sum, there is a world of difference between an MMO and other games.
