Three rules for 1944:
1. Don't get detected. 2. Don't get detected. 3. If you are detected, bend over, put head between legs and kiss your backside good bye. ![]()

Just got back from my first patrol with the new sonar covering and I managed to escape escorts a couple of times. The weather was really bad as well so that would have made life more difficult for the escorts as well. So first impressions is that the updated sonar covering helps evading escorts but it will be really put to the test when I'm pursued on a calm day.

I'm another one of those who have never made it to 1944. August 1943 is the best I have ever done.

I too have never made it to 1944, but I have hopes of someday getting there.
If GWX was modeled to get some historical value, then it would be a good idea to radio in your contact BEFORE you attack. Perhaps other u-boats will get the message and come to your rescue in a wolf-pack (that's my hope anyway, I don't know if it'll work or not). My practice in running from escorts is to go in the direction the convoy came from. By doing this, you open the distance between the escorts and the convoy, thus making your time in hell a bit less. They don't like leaving the convoy unprotected. You lose your chances at a second run on the convoy, but you increase your chances of survival to attack a different convoy, perhaps a better convoy, on perhaps a better day.

![]() ![]() ![]() This is the truth. After late 1943, it is no longer about getting tonnage, it is about surviving the patrol. If your boat doesn't have a snorkel...well... ![]() ![]() ![]() |
