Default Sh 4 on a Mac?

Anyone know how to run SH 4 on a Mac? I can run it under Bootcamp but would like to run on Mac os. I'm very new to Mac Pro and heard about Wine but would like to know how to use it.

Wine is also used in Linux, same basic operating system as Mac but absolutely free and able to be run legally on all PC's (because there are no Macs any more, just PCs. Apple's only computer product is its operating system).

Anyway, I am unable to get Wine to play amicably with SH4, although I can run Steam in a crippled kind of way.

Both OSX and Linux share the same defect in that they were consciously designed not to play games, which were looked upon as a trivial waste of the computer's awesome business prowess. One thing you can take to the bank every day is the assumption of Apple Computer's arrogance.

As it turns out, one major factor in the superiority of the Windows platform has been its endorsement of games. They have pushed graphics capability, sound handling and processing power far beyond what business applications would require, making inexpensive, superior components available for all.

It was so successful in creating superior architecture that Apple surrendered the hardware field to market generic PCs for inflated prices, justifying their existence by the the inclusion of OSX, unavailable on an identical machine not sold by them. I sneer in their general direction.

The Linux guys are showing some smarts. I wouldn't be surprised to see games working well on Linux very soon, maybe with game companies producing versions designed to work with Linux.

For now, your best bet on native Mac is Steam. As for Apple and games, who knows? You DO know that they regard you as a renter of their machine. They will decide what runs and what doesn't on the machine you paid too much for, but do not have ownership rights to.

Give me the anarchy of the Windows/Linux world any time. Totalitarianism just makes me mad.

This gem of a quote by RR shows well why there are so many people wiling to support tirants. Its just that, for most day-to-day issues, they are like MACs: they make things work!

Like trojan horse malware! They finally got 600,000 Macs successfully running the Trojan and are about to declare total victory over the Wndows world as a result!

They've had their share of fake anti-virus shenanigans too. You know, when you are arrogant enough to claim you are immune from malware, justice will come your way. The fact was that the number of Mac users was so insignificant there was no money to be made with the malware. Apparently someone is now fed up with their arrogance or there are enough Macs to make it worthwhile. There is NOTHING superior about Apple in regards to malware, and the long bumpy ride is just beginning. Fasten your seatbelts.

Default SH4 on a Mac - one way

SH4 on a Mac - one way:

It's best if I just quote Kim who posted this procedure he used in a public forum about a year ago. I was amazed he could run SH4 on a Mac! His native language is not English but he does alright:

It has to be a rather new Mac that uses an intel processor ! Then you buy a windows 7 package for a new machine and install it.
That's not easy - as you have to partitionate your machine with a windows partition, this can be done with boot camp a program that comes with the Mac - I only gave mine 35 GB - that was a bad idea, as windows 7 gobbles up disk place as a child a chocolate cake.

You have to download some extra files from Apple (And they didn't know that at Humac !!!!)- they have to be placed on a USB key - that has to formatted especially as a boot start key. Then you start up windows 7 via Bootcamp.

But if you do that you can install windows 7 -
I'm going to redo the process and give windows 50 GB - as I now know that everything else works for SH4 including my tools.

There is an alternative possibility there are program that let you run mac and windows programs simultaneously - but with a game like SH4 I want all resources for the game.
Hope this helps.

Happy Hunting!

Darn! I sure wish Kim would allow me to post the latest version of his brilliant SH4 Report. For some reason, last time I asked he turned me down flat with no explanation.

With SH4 Report you save your cruise on return BEFORE you dock. It downloads all your accomplishments for that cruise and compiles them into an all-inclusive report that just blows my socks off! We could guarantee him a large and appreciative user base, that's for sure.

Aanker, do you think he would let YOU post it here?

Wow, I know lots of people with Macs and none of them are arrogant, including the OP I hope, he just asked for help and you launched the tirade. There are plenty of games that run on Macs w/o bootcamp these days (including Skyrim which surprised me) - and a lot of folks know how to do lots of stuff that would surprise you.

I have an HP with Win 7 (the best OS by MS to date until Win 9 rolls out ) and it runs very fine thank you-and an iPhone 4 I am very happy with. I don't give a damn what computers or smartphones etc you ike to use-I just get sick of the assumptions held by many on this forum and the fact it is always the haters that rant. Reminds me of the SH4/SH3 days.

And I am one of them, i.e.; using Bootcamp. I was surprised at the replies, especially from RR. But, I decided to "let it go". They wanted to hijack this thread and nothing was going to stop "them".

Since I was fortunate to receive a MacPro as a birthday gift I wanted to learn to use it and since SH4 is my favorite game I wanted to run it on the new Mac. Bootcamp works fine, but I want to explore running it in native Mac OS via Wineskin wrappers, So, I didn't know where else to ask about this other than this forum. Never expected to "hit" a raw nerve.

I consider this thread closed.
