GWX manual:
Quote:
This means GWX will no longer award renown for reaching and patrolling your patrol area in fairness to players in the Black Sea and Indian Ocean, since some areas received this award and some did not.

I like the renown system for gameplay reasons even tho it might be semi-realistic. I don't agree with GWX removing points for reaching the patrol area and being there for 24 hours.

First of all having to go somewhere makes the game far more interesting otherwise it's 1 more easy, because you don't have to go to far which is good because when your boat gets damaged or low on fuel you're back soon. And you're able to avoid dangerous areas. 2 Otherwise you can go to the same area every time, sink ships and go home.

It's fair that you don't get points for not getting points for patrolling near Penang etc. You don't need as many points as those flotillas are not as difficult. And BdU wouldn't be interested in upgrading boats at those flotillas as much. Also they would have difficulties doing that as they are far away from Germany.

Penang is a so called 'token flotilla' BdU isn't to interested in what's going on there. Other than that it's difficult to verify. And Commanders can't be replaced very easily over there. So basically it makes sense that you can do what ever, and don't care about going to your patrol area.

So the reason why GWX removes points for the patrol area doesnt hold up in my opinion It makes the game more inbalanced and even a bit boring if you allow yourself to 'cheat'. And it takes away some decisions aswell.

btw I know it's easy to mod the patrol area reward back in, no problem there.

As I said in my post (which was several months ago) what is totally unrealistic is the 24-hour rule itself. A u-boat was assigned to go to a grid and stay there until ordered otherwise. The 24-hour rule is a holdover from the mission-based system the devs wanted to institute in the first place.

GWX wasn't about making the game more interesting, but making it more realistic. Renown is another word for "fame", or respect from your higher-ups. Nobody gets that respect for following orders, hence the removal of renown for merely patrolling your assigned grid.

Again it's not about what you "need", it's about the way the system really worked.

No offense, but it seems to me that you've missed the whole point of why they made that change. On the other hand, my opinion is that the whole renown system is misplaced. You might want to give NYGM a try; they removed renown altogether, and made is solely about tonnage.

It's not about how I phrase it, it is about what I'm saying. A lot of what I'm saying are realism arguments actually.

Don't get me wrong I think GWX is great. NYMG is good too, I used to play SHIII+NYMG six years ago. I really appreciate the effort you guys put
into modding the game.

Cool. So much of internet conversation is not being able to see the other person's face, thus missing the point entirely.

I like GWX the best, though I root for all of them.
