I have to stick up for SH5...I,ll admit that when i first installed it and tried it,,i was really frustrated at trying to figure things out...After asking questions on here,,people got me pointed in the right direction as to how things work...
If it wasn,t for this forum,,i,d have been totally lost..UBI,s manuals aren,t worth the paper they are printed on..
beats me how they put out out a sim like this and not explain everything in a comprehensive manual..
every time i log on here ,i learn something new about these sims..

SH5 is addictive and my favorite sim after i started to catch on to it..

10 minutes??? have some patience and learn what is going on and you might find that you too will like it !!!

just my 2 cents worth

Coming from the flight sim community and never having used a sub simulator I shared your feelings, though not quite so vehemently. But then I discovered Subsim.com and all the wonderful things available to those with the patience to do a little exploring..........it's all here. All it takes is a little time and persistence!

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to too many SubSim shipmates to acknowledge all in this post but there are very helpful tutorials available on You Tube....just enter SILENT HUNTER 5 or SH 5 in the You Tube search window. There you'll find everything from the most basic "how to install MODS" to advance tactics and every thing in between. Names to begin with here would be Stoianm and J2Jeremy all though there are many, many other good ones.

There are a lot of excellent MODS, each making it a better and different game than when you first installed it and also becomes much more immersive with each one. Here, Google is your friend! If you have found a MOD mentioned on SubSim but you can't seem to find where to download on the site then type it into Google and it will almost always give you a link. For openers look for TheDarkWraith, Sober, Travally among many other modders. Their work makes all the difference!

A month and a half ago I couldn't even spell SILENT HUNTER 5. Now I love it so much I think I'd take an axe to my dog before I'd give it up. It is my second favorite pastime in the world.

I say that being a retired airline pilot and now my FSX and my flight controls are gathering dust in the closet.

Try again, you'll grow to love it.

To those I haven't as yet mentioned my deep thanks for making the game something special.

This is completely wrong my friend It's the SH5 itself has to grow to be loved by me!

Yeah Chuck Norris style

What's good about SH5 except graphics ? Is there a supermod already that unites all the dozens realism based mods together ?
Does campaign last until 1945 now without bugs ?
Does the ships in the distance has been reworked by now ? (cuz they looked very bad AFAIR)
Oh and the all mighty DRM Has it been already removed ? If not, will I be able to play the cracked version of it without problems ? DRM is my enemy and it's out of the question that I ever buy SH5 with IT inside

See, there is no logical explanation to why SH5 is better than SH3 + GWX!
If you think you can proove me wrong, be my guest I'm all open to criticism and so on.

No, no, no spare the dog

Having been in the service on a sub for five years I would stress that thanks to all the devoted and skilful modders the SH5 really is exquisite and continuously developing.

My Thrustmaster is now on shore leave.

Supermod is coming. Lots of mods are still being made. Patience is a virtue, etc etc.
Campaign now lasts until 1945 with OHII.
Ships in the distance (wake?) is fixed by a mod from sober (iirc).
DRM only activates on startup and downtime is very rare.

New subs will be coming soon thanks to the hard work of TDW and Privateer.

Conclusion: put some effort in, try the mods and see all the hard work done by the community, then whine about it. Or just give this old, old topic a rest.

In short: SH5 is under long long construction ahead

Remind me to check on it again just after the cherry is going to be placed on top of the cake

As for now I'm back to GWX heaven

Do the GWX team know that you are their self appointed champion
You should tell them your new role in their thread
