I realise your sun is working. What I meant was, I don't think SH3 works with AA above x4. Because you had yours set at 8, it led me to believe that the game is using your nvidia control panel settings, rather than your nvidia inspector settings.

If this is the case, you won't be getting the benefit from the EA Games optimisation.

If we are talking about flat sun issue which belong to OLCG2, then there is an official fix for it, released by mod developer..

Without that fix I would also get flat sun.

Read my original post.

The flat sun fix makes no difference for me. It's all to do with driver settings. At least with my particular hardware.

Maan this is frustrating! Just spent half an hour trying different settings in nvidia inspector and it looks like the choice is this: either I have flat sun or I cannot have AA. THe two do not work together. I've tried settings posted in this thread, but it always comes down to this- enable "ovveride program setting" for AA and sun looses glare, enable "enhance program settings" for AA and glare appears but the game is full of jaggies with shipps masts flickering being pretty severe.

460GTX, latest drivers (285.58), WinXP SP3

Welcome to Subsim!

Sorry to say I've been there and felt that. Tried every setting known to man, but as you say, with those cards it seems to come down to one or the other.

What did you end up preferring- the glare or the AA?

I had to go with the AA 'cause I just couldn't handle all the jagged edges. I was getting them mostly on the water around the ships and off in the distance. That made it a pretty easy choice considering I spent a lot more time looking at the water/ships than I did at the sun.

Hm, I found that disabling sun glare messes up suns representation overall- its reflection in the water (the "sunny road to the horizon") and overall the game just looks better with sunglare on... I chose to stick with sunglare at the expense of AA- will see how it goes.

I will also subscribe to this thread- who knows, a miracle cure might appear, or maybe someone already has it

Fortunately there's no right or wrong answer. We all have different priorities, so whichever is least offensive and however you enjoy the game most is fine.

I hope you're right. It would be very welcome indeed.

Woot! It works! BOTH sunglare AND AA!! On my Nvidia 460 with latest drivers!

Indeed I should sharpen my comprehension skills as the answer was on the previous page all along.

Step 1: Set Nvidia Control Panel "adjust image settings with preview" option to "let 3d app decide".
Step 2: Set Nvidia Nspector settings. (AA compatibility to 200000000, force AA, AA x4 Multisumpling.

Step 3: enjoy SH3 with AA and proper sun graphics

Thanks ryanwigginton, couldn't have done it without you!

Incidentally, in case someone else happens along this thread looking for some help...

This got me thinking so I went back and tested an old rig with a nVidia GeForce 8500 GT. I downloaded an older version of nHancer (2.4.5) and was finally able to get it to work with the following settings:

1. In-game enhanced off (This returns sun halo/glare).

2. Multi-sampling gamma correction on.

3. Multi-sampling AA on and set as high as your system can handle. (Use Ctrl-F8 to check FPS).

4. Pre-render limit 2. (Anti lag).

5. And then perhaps most importantly, AA compatibility set to: '20000000: EA Strategy Games.'

Never thought it would happen, but it worked like a charm!
