Hey, if I want to install a damned codec like quicktime, I just need a codec, no permanent connections to apple, no freaking other malware. And yes, I rwalize that there is a QT-pro version available, you don't have to remind me any time I open a qt-file.

Then there is this crappy thing called itunes. Why the hell should I install a god-damned store system and 6428GB of other features if I just want to copy music files from my computer to a portable player?

So sorry, dear Macintosh company, I don't buy your overpriced, metrosexual, hipster hardware and I don't use your crappy software either, even if it's for free.
Me thinks you exaggerate too much.

Thanks, but Amazon is usually a little cheaper for me, and I like to think Neal gets his slice, albeit a very, very thin one.

yep, a friend of mine had me fix her computer and when i asked for her windows cd after reformatting and she hands me a stack of 8, yes i said 8 install cds and no code, all this for just regular xp home version and thats without sp1 or 2 (3 wasnt out yet at the time)

hp imbeds the registration code into the disks so you have to load 8 disks full of crap or you wount be registered as legit

HP downloads offer just driver versions if you care to look at their website.

Apple I totally agree with. iTunes? No thanks I prefer to control my computers myself.

Symantec I've had few complaints about.

Sony pisses me off because I can't use my Handycam digital recorder with windows 7 because they don't update the software. I'm forced to play and capture the video into the computer now or buy a new recorder.

Yahoo and others? Don't install the freaking toolbars. Pay attention.

You can add Toshiba to that list. Their unmitigated un-uninstallable crap on notebooks and even FFS their USB drives, is simply clutter that clogs up booting your machine. Worse than some viruses I've come across.

I could install a clean OS on the HP NoteBooks if I wanted to pay more money.
But they come with the OS as a legal version!
I payed for that didn't I?

Why should I be forced to install all the HP crap on a re-install?
And why should I be forced to buy a legal Clean install with no HP stuff?

Yeah, I've learned the hard way to look very carefully at every possible screen in an "install" dialog. Occasionally I miss something and end up having to go back and uninstall things. My pet peeve is the ones that have every possible add-on and "bonus" piece of crap already selected for you by default.

I don't want to end up like Technologically Impaired Duck!

No the drivers don't work all the time.
That's another several hours just to find something that works.
As an example....
I was told by some software that I did not have permissions set properly
to run some Active X BS!!

Well, several hours later I found the problem in the Registry!
Amazing that HP STILL does not have this answer on thier WebSite!
And what they suggest takes several hours of needless BS and STILL does not fix the issue!

Build your own and do not run any non ESSENTIAL CD's. Thats what I had to do.

I'm afraid of connecting my printer - lord only knows what a 4 year old printer will do to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Just booted it up, so let me rant about this:

GODDAMN DELPHI XE!!!!111ONE!!!
what is it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphi_XE

its the latest version of Delphi, an IDE

I AM SUPPOSED TO DEVELOP SOFTWARE WITH THIS, AND THIS DAMN THING IS NOT UAC COMPLIANT ITSELF

if you actually think about it, its a small mistake, almost has no effect on it

but how exactly am i expected to develop software using broken software

Also, I just gotta rant about databases

Office comes with Access, Visual Studio comes with MS SQL, than you get SQLite, Mysql, postgresql, and a whole lot more, all bundled with other software

Really, I have no need for databases, but because i was careless, somehow there is 4 on my computer right now

Well, Amazon is not available in Switzerland, heck none of the big download stores are universally available. Thanks record companies.

Another good choce is bandcamp, allows bands to martek their music directly, many have their stuff on sale on their website.

Now I'll go back to listening to Johnny Cash sing Hurt on my metrosexual iphone.

At least you have a good taste in music - that makes you one of the last Mac- guys who will be put to the wall after the revolution

Cheers from the guy whose last cup of coffee at work was a metrosexual cafe latte from a Minnie Mouse mug

Obligatory:

Funny story there. I buy and download music from Amazon among other places. Every time I download an album I recieve a message upon installation: Could not install song. What? Of course it installed it - I'm listening to it right now! Then I finally figured out that it was also trying to install it to iTunes, which I refuse to have.

I actually enjoy seeing that message now.
