Awesome pics, CCIP - just out of curiosity, how much time did you spend in the people tank?

Also, didn't you mention something in an earlier post about a redhead? So... where's the redhead???

You know, it's easy to forget the time when things are that interesting. I made a first run-through in about 40 minutes, then went back down and stayed around to listen to stories. So probably about an hour and a half.

I had the luxury of bringing my own auburn-haired chick with me (too bad the kids got my hair color).

We were at the O'Brien the week before CCIP, and the guy there told us they moved her across the harbor to unload all of the lead ballast from her, to be replaced with stone. It helps them by removing a hazardous material they no longer had to be concerned with and mitigate, and the lead is worth a lot of cash now, too.

CCIP - I totally get you, mate. I know that I've been chivvied out of more than one old ship or aircraft by a wife who'd like to maybe eat that day - time does fly when you find yourself "in your element."

Now, what the should have done is load that puppy up with the "parking lot" of AFVs that used to be the Aberdeen Proving Grounds' Armor Museum, closed to BRAC and relocating to Virginia. Put all those tanks on Jeremiah O'Brien, and totally go whole hog on the interpretation.

I know, I know, I'm dreaming, but still...

Nice. I visited the Pampanito in '09, sadly I didn't have much time to poke around or take many pictures. I'll have to go back some time so I can really appreciate her It was really something to see a fleet boat in person, though.

Thanks for your share, CCIP, the pics provide some nice impressions of the boat!
Seems that you have chosen a good time for your visit: a non-overcrowded boat and the chance to meet some vets on it is something you don't get every day. *envious Penguin*

haha, I know this feeling! At least my Frau likes cannons - I have to take a pic of her sitting on one whereever we see one. This is my trick to lure her into museums : "hey, I heard they have some nice cannons inside..."

My wife was commenting that most every vacation for us has at some point involved getting on a ship painted grey

She's from a Navy family, maybe that's why she likes it
