Obvious you can do two things. If you know history, you know where the action is or you can study maps or pay attention to all the info the game gives you, those movie reports where campaigns are soon coming. All the big battles are well scripted, plus hundreds of medium to small ones.

Most find it best to start out of Manila. The action at the beginning of the war will be around the Philppines as the Japs land several large invasion forces, then they move south to Borneo, Java, etc.. Java really heats up late Feb 42, if you know what's going on you can about walk on ships.

All the battles in the Solomons are great.
If the USN had Armistead in WW2, he would have set ambushes at all the battle locations and the war would have ended far sooner. Personally, I prefer sailing aound looking for action. I rarely find any; however, I get in plenty of good fishing and the last mission hooked a world record blue marlin.
Trophy? Medal? What's the difference.

That sounds like a good enough patrol for me.

I get the sense that Armistead is bored, while he sinks whole task forces.

For me, if I sink several merchants, its a good patrol.

If I sink a capitol ship, any capitol ship, its a great patrol.

Hehe, I've just played so long and know my history fairly well, so I know where most battles are. I don't even play much anymore, but when I do I play single missions that people make or my own.
