Ok, so let's do this one step at a time, leaving the patching til last. First, download Gamebooster: http://iobit.com/downloadcenter.php?...ame-booster-v1 (direct link). It's the 1.6 version, there is a v.2 but it caused a few problems with my rig, dunno if it's just me but start with this one first as that's what I use. Click No when it asks if you want to update (when it starts up).

Once installed, restart the PC and immediately before you run SH3, run Gamebooster and click 'Gaming Mode'. It will bring up a dialog with a list of programs running on your PC *in addition* to the default processes it closes. Put a check in the boxes for any running programs you know you don't need during your game session then click 'Close them'. It should then close down all the checked processes and defrag and free up any RAM. It will then minimize itself to the tray and you can start SH3. See if that makes a difference first of all, if not, we'll start with the patches, but Gamebooster is good to have for any game so well worth having regardless.

Ok, I finally found ver1.6 on the net.

BTW: Anyone know about the second problem I posted?

CTD on second load up screen, used SH3C & SH3 icons, like the Kernel.dll the load up bar is almost at the end then blank screen followed by this program is not responding and must close down.

That's precisely the problem I'm trying to help you solve, just I don't want to get you patching .exe's and editing bootfiles unless it's absolutely necessary.

Now, did you try loading SH3 after a restart and running gamebooster?

I'm going to un-install it again and do all the usual then reinstall it, but before I install GWX I'm going to see what the results are for stock first.

Well tried stock, same again...

SH3.exe

Just out of interest do you delete your saved games folder SH3
in your programs if not there could be something contained in it
that is causing a problem

I've never had any problems with a stock install, it's only when I start adding the mods that I need to do all the patching shennanigans. Use a registry cleaner to clear out all traces of SH3 before reinstalling.

It sounds like ram issues and clearing out files from your hard drive and documents. Win xp and vista are both ram hungry os's and they fixed this in win 7. So if you had 7 in 32bit you wouldnt or rather shouldnt have these problems. Win 7 (oem) 32bit is $109 from tigerdirect.com and btw if all your running is games like sh3 you should be fine with your video card. Im upgrading to 2 gtx 570s here soon but right now I have 3 9800 gtx's and they do fine with games like crysis on "high" setting. I have had one 9800 gtx run on a vista 32bit platform and run sh3 fine with alot of mods. But check your files in my documents and install your sh3.exe file on your c drive instead of under programfiles. It will read like this - C:silenthunter3 - or something like that. See if that helps.

Locate the icon for "My Computer" or just "Computer", then right-click on it and choose properties. The tab that you get to see should tell you how many MB (megabytes) or GB (gigabytes) of RAM is on your PC. The above doesn't say enough. The cache-size is of little or no consequence.

is this a laptop? Maybe the video card is using 'shared memory' (aka system memory) and thus leaving a very small amount of actual memory for the application

No, an old Dell 8400...I would say a good six years old now.

BTW: Never had any problems with stock SH3 way back before GWX.
