And like I said, we don't get the luxury of writing separate citations accompanying the awards.

As I said, this criteria is not open for us to change (being hard coded) the only thing we can do is make sure the correct medal is presented for the appropriate action we take during a mission.

I didn't mean to suggest it could be implemented in the game; I just thought it was a nice idea.

I don't understand how the Purple Heart works. I mean as Captain, I'm either ok or dead. Is it awarded for wounds as it should be?

I believe the Purple Heart gets brought into play when a certain amount of damage is created on the sub. Yes, non life threatening injuries count. The calculation is made on a wide spread basis; in other words, the number for the crew is just randomly chosen (much like the fact that as the Captain YOU decide who gets one!?). The fact that the Captain gets one is based on the same haphazard principle. You may or may not receive one, even if you're in the midst of action, or over on the side lines.

It's a pretty medal isn't it!?!

Getting back to the award calculation for type of ship sunk. Each ship has a set "renown" figure attached to it. It doesn't show during the game, but each ship has one (take a look at the Data/Sea/each ships name/each ships name .cfg file). Sinking higher renown ships within a specific patrol, or even being calculated between two different patrols, will increase the Captains "renown" total. This figure, coupled with the number of "successful" patrols, and time in service, make up the calculation parameters. Least wise that's my story, an' I'm sticking to it!!

??? re medals fix

What is the medals fix that is compatible with TMO2.0? I tried medals fix 2, and started having trouble with the game, so I am thinking I need a different medals mod.

Note: I just found some posts by CapnScurvy. The Medals Fix is compatible with RSRDC but he warns that if other mods are added there could be mod soup problems. I think that is what is what I ran into, as I play TMO2.0 + RSRDC, plus various other mods. I just deactivated the medals fix, and that has eliminated game freezes and a crash (I hope!)

That reminds me of something I read some time ago. A WWII infantryman wrote home describing the Purple Heart one of his fellow soldiers won, the first they had seen. He wrote thus:

Everybody thought it was beautiful, but nobody wanted one.....

YEP, mod soup!!

Just a general warning to those that think they can run anything with the game and it will all live happily together..............NOT!!

TMO 2.0 doesn't need a medals fix. My "U.S. Medals Fix II" files are already in it. Adding another layer will just get you into trouble. Ducimus worked on the proper medal showing years ago. I removed the medals from the Captains Office award box because I'm no 3D modeling expert and couldn't make a set of medals for it (I had a medal that was the size of the desk itself). I added the different "type" of medals and moved a couple of things around when I discovered the medal "order" was out of whack with the achievements one accomplished during a mission or career.

U.S. Medals Fix II found HERE is compatible to the stock game only. Don't activate it through JSGME behind other mods that conflict with the files it changes. The RSRDC mod that is named version 550 is compatible to the stock game only; because Lurker's files don't conflict with the Medals Fix files, U.S. Medals Fix II is compatible with it.

@ I'm going down, I hope your using the correct version of RSRDC with TMO 2, That would be "RSRDC_TMO_v502" (and its patch). This is why as a gamer trying different mods, you need to know what files are changed by one that may conflict with another. Just having a "salad bowl" full of mods without knowing what one does over the other is going to cause problems.

You will notice there are a couple of versions of the U.S. Medals Fix II found on the SubSim "DownLoads" pages. Their for RFB 1.52, TMO 1.6.3, etc. As one may expect they are for older versions of these mods. Don't expect to use them with a newer version of the same modification. Trouble, trouble, TROUBLE!!!

I noticed that TMO had the correct medals last night. I am running RSRDC 502, so I got that part right! Thanks for the information re mod soup.

FYI - I tired Row Sound Effect v_9, but did not like the guy coughing every few minutes. I deactived it and reactived EAX SoundSim with "Webster's Maneuver" for TMO1.9 (I have to ask Webster what "Webster's Maneuver" means.)

Also, I replaced EZ Plot v1.0 with Stock Map Icons, the latter which restores the original SH4 plane and ship silouette colors and designs.
