I had snow last Thursday, but probably won't see anything else for at least a month. Getting some serious rain today, though. No cycling for me.

Major Ice Storm!!
I drove through it all from El Paso to Ohio!
At one point I had to use a propane torch to keep the windshield clear
so We could keep rolling.

We are getting our first snow of the season here today. They predicted some flurries but it seems to be coming down pretty steady at the moment.

It's the big white fluffy kind and I don't think the ground's cold enough for it to stick - it's melting when it hits the pavement, anyway. Could be a different story if it continues overnight.

Well here is my car after the other night's snow and my back garden.

The last photo is an icicle I managed to get by leaning out of the window and break off my guttering. It was just over 2 foot long before then broke off.

It's still gusting out there, Shipping Forecast for the Thames area says:

Quote:
Gale warnings - Issued: 1531 UTC Wed 01 Dec

Northeasterly severe gale force 9 decreasing gale force 8 soon

Shipping Forecast - Issued: 1725 UTC Wed 01 Dec

Wind Northeasterly 6 to gale 8, occasionally severe gale 9 at first.
Sea State Rough or very rough.
Weather Snow or squally wintry showers.
Visibility Moderate, occasionally very poor.
I can believe the Force 9 gusts, the sea was pretty impressive earlier, lots of white horses. Going to be a fun walk to work tomorrow morning at half six in it.

You're all invited down here.

No snow ever. Well there was this once in 1836. We do get bad hail though.

You know every time I watch that scene I wonder how this is at all possible. The guy's been in the Kriegsmarine for years, and presumably has spent quite a good bit of that time in the North Sea, the Baltic, and northern Germany (since, you know, that's where the ports are).

Even assuming there's been no snow in the part of France where he's now stationed, it's autumn 1941 so he couldn't have been operating out of one of the French ports for more than a year or so.

How is it possible that he hasn't seen snow "in years"?

Also, when was the last time he saw his wife?

Never, since he doesn't have one.

It's the LI's wife in the pictures they are looking at, and he's the one who mentions that there would already be snow back home by that time of year. It's der Alte who says that he hasn't seen snow in years, which I find really odd, since one would assume he'd been stationed in a North Sea or Baltic port up until the previous autumn (at least).

Or maybe the German is just not translated well in the subtitles.
