Am I the only one who sees a parallel between Today's interest in reality shows and the Roman's interest in gladiator fights?

Both were reality shows in their times.
Both fed off of some interest of the masses to see others suffer.

In the Roman example, it was physical suffering
In the current example, it is emotional suffering

Both are a disturbing reflection on the masses.

I see that more with fake wrestling..and I don't get why all those people love it. I loved it as a kid in the 70's, but today adults...

Course Survivor is about the only reality show I watch. Also enjoyed Topshot with Colby, now that was a cool show. Oh, not to forget Madhouse, redneck racing, I did watch that since the track is in my town and one of em is a good friend. Only went to one race and it is as redneck as the show makes it, but it doesn't belong on the history channel.

I thought I saw a new version of Mutual of Omaha, loved that growing up.

My wife knows Jane fairly well since they both show dogs. She lives about 45 minutes from me. They have often competed against each other, travelled together. She's one tough bitch. Hope she wins so I can borrow some money.

I love the show, it's very interesting to observe people under these conditions, competing for the money. The psychology, the challenges, the drama. Good stuff. To be honest, I have only watched three seasons from start to ending. I believe it was Season 2, the Cook Islands season, and the current season. Not sure why, but as much as I enjoy the show, if I don't find some of the participants interesting or compelling in the first episode, I pretty much skip the rest of the season.

Steve, Survivor is not so much a show about realistically surviving the outdoors, but a game show that takes place under castaway type conditions.

I have to admit I don't enjoy this season and didn't watch much of it on TV, although bored one day watched it on the net. I'm seeing many changes I don't like, immunity idols in mass, ect., Probst running his mouth all the time. Chase talked Jane off the perch last show or so ago and Probst convinced her to stay on....Lately he's getting on my nerves.

Another problem is the tribe switch ups at the wrong time leaving good players dead in the water, no tactics in that at all. It's starting to appear
the directors are playing with the show and moving things in the direction they want, often screwing up a players tactics. Tribal council is now the place where Jeff gives away all. Course the real time of these councils average 3 hours and we see a few minutes. Guess it's hard to keep ratings after fan vs favs, heroes vs villians.

I know. I'm not knocking the show or the people who like it. It's just my taste in television. As I said, I like a lot of stuff I wouldn't recommend to anybody else.

I do know this, Jane was at home last week. She's gone now, where, who knows with her.

I know if I had to eat snails, wipe my arse with grass and sleep next to a stinky woman with hair hanging out her bikini like a jewish beard, I'd call that survival.
