I have to think this is less efficient than running on diesel the whole way.

First, your not storing 100% of the energy (realistically speaking, not sure how SH3 models this). Most modern engines are only like 30% efficient to start with, now you add another set of components (batteries and electric motors) to further decrease efficiency.

Secondly, up until the XXI, U-boats were more efficient on the surface, so running submerged to save juice doesn't make sense.

With the range we have, Wilmshaven to Morocco should be no problem runnign at 7-8 knots. I've been very tempted this career to take a stab at New York in my VIIb. Yeah, i'll have to use the cow in Newfoundland in both legs of the trip, but you could probably make it TO new york on one tank, but not much else.

But I'm not sure how the game models efficiency and such though. And if your talking evading detection by running submerged during the day, well that's another story altogether.

Default main reason

to avoid using milkcow will messed up my career, no medals, next mission is patrol grid null.

the only only you get when docking a milkcow is credit.

so doing a mission, and reach that grid and make home is mission complete.

beside i will use a milkcow only in case of emergency

Yep...a fully charged battery bank and submerge when you have to (for Co2 reasons)...you'd never get through on the surface.

So if you reach the grid and then return to base "manually" (no using the option "exit from patrol") gives you more renown?.
Because I use this option always (maybe I misunderstood).

Only if you also fix it so we can steer with the engines. Having the rudder destroyed should not prevent the boat from getting home.

From what i Understand, there is no renown bonus for steering the boat back into base. From what i've read (and correct me here), it was never coded into the game-engine to account for it.

I usually sail back to a point where I'm in "friendly waters". Not sure if those really existed later in the war though... Then I'll port from there. I feel it's a waste time to sail back if nothing is going to happen.

That is correct, the renown for returning to base has never worked either in stock/vanilla or any supermod.

Default Sorry that i missunderstood ya'l

When i have a mission, i going to that grid, no matter how far it's, i sail on slow ahead(6 knots) on surface, it takes almost 4 hour game-play to finish..

When you reach that grid you will get points(reown), than another reown, for patroling the grid 24 hours...

when that is done, i go back to europe(close to england) if i have some fish left to use them all, than when have no fish, i return to base, yes it's manualy, i dont hit ESC button and click on finish game... than the whole 4 hours game-play and the reown are gone... offcourse im heading home to port.. to complete the mission, i will hit ESC when im at 20 miles to the base, to dock it...

According to wikipedia Type XIV boats could supply 400 tons of oil + torpedoes + food. manual says it only supplied oil.

If you believe wikipedia you shouldnt feel guilty if you got resupplied with torps after docking with one .

Default Not the whole trip surface

To reserve diesel, i dive when morning breaks(from red light) to no light, stay under water till red light comes up, then surface, to resharge batteries, till morning break. than repeat over and over.

later in war, you stay under water, unless you wanna shoot down liberators, and when snorkel is available you can charge batteries under water.

So I´m gonna try what tessa suggested to do:" Just hit the ESC key and choose exit patrol; Capt. Piccard mysteriously shows up in the command room and say, "make it so" and you're back in port."

Thank you all for your help.

P.S

Hy EveryBody!!!
I tried Tessa´s suggestion:" Just hit the ESC key and choose exit patrol; Capt. Piccard mysteriously shows up in the command room and say, "make it so" and you're back in port." But unfortunately It didn´t work.
When you ressuplies your u-boat you resupplies all:Fuel+Torpedos.

P.S
I´m Student so Sorry for my Englis.

Hy NightCrawler!!
I think that if you use milkcows you do not messed your career because you can resupplie your u-boat almost like if you docked at port:Fuel+Torpedos+Repair your boat+Rewon+Medals....
The problem is that you have to return to your base to have a new mission.
