That's another fault with this game, German ranks are hard enough to pronounce when sober!!

If things like, racist Neo nazi's, holocaust denial and historical revisonism didn't exist today - that might acutally be funny. But they do, and it's not.

Apparently, the FB group is erased now, probably as a result of complaints, but someone has then established a support group... typically, FB mentality...
Hitler – The Drinking Game --> THE GUYS WHO CREATED THE HITLER DRINKING GAME ARE LEGENDS!!!
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=250160521497
This group then passes on the rules for the drinking game.

I wonder how long that group will exist....

Morons....

well at first I was kinda neutral
but now that I've read this thread a couple of times and thought about it, I have to admit I'm now actually supportive of the students.

For starters, it's a game (and it does look like a funny one at that)! It's not the real world. If we play as a German Kaleun, we're also supporting the nazis. We mercilessly sink allied ships, even passenger liners, not thinking of all the innocent lives that that may have cost in reality. Why? Because it's FUN! Games are for FUN, they're not there to remember all lives that have been lost, however tragical that may be!
If I run a bullet through the head of a Russian soldier when playing a German in CoD:WaW, I'm not gonna pray for the souls of all poor Russians who have been slaughtered by the Germans in WW2. Similarly, if I make a nazi salute I ain't gonna pray for all exterminated Jews. (I'm an atheist so I don't pray anyway, but still)

Secondly, I dont know where you all usually play your drinking games, but *I* generally don't do it in public. A drinking game is a private event, and only people who consent participate. It's not like millions of people are being forced here to watch students make nazi salutes.
Sure, they posted it on facebook. So what? No-one's gonna force you to go to their facebook page. If you don't want to see it, don't go there. You have that choice!

Oh man, I'm sure I'm gonna regret having ever posted this

Depends on your view of fun I guess.
It is a bit of a storm in a teacup, after all, they're students, they do stupid things, particularly when they've had a few, however at the end of the day it's primarily about the continued rise of far right groups across Europe (and indeed the world). I think it's rather unlikely we'd see about Hitler in the strictest sense of the word, people are too jumpy and quick to pull the Nazi card at the slightest sense of racial inequality, and of course, most of Europe is too scared to pass anything that might be seen as inequality...but there is definately a slow movement towards more right-wing ideals when left-wing politicians continually stuff things up (not that right wingers have done things that much better, but social memory is short)
I think there's a lot of sensitivity around the Holocaust, and a lot of emotion, which is hardly surprising, and things like this are bound to provoke a reaction.

Maybe it was all just about provoking reactions.

I actually thought it was kind of funny, just because it involves Hitler and really a lot of creative thinking.

When will we have a STALIN drinking game?

There is a bit of a difference playing a german u-boat commander than getting rat arsed, doing Hitler salutes and saying things like One member suggested Bailey's liqueur should be mandatory, because: "The Holocaust concludes with necking a Jew's brain."
If you find that a laugh up to you but I and many people don't.

You see there are drinking games, and drinking games, and this ain't one to be proud of.

I don't find the hakenkruz on my -109 in IL-2 automatically offensive or on my model plane as that is the historical context it was in.

I do find people daubing swastica's on themselves and doing Nazi salutes in the name of fun at best distasteful. If the guys who started this think it is a laugh then they have a severe lack of understanding of the world and history and I also doubt whether they are "decent" people.

Sure Facebook in the main does seem to be filled with tossers who have no life.

PS. I also hate the lame excuse "well they're students, students do stupid stuff." Well in terms of doing stupid stuff, British students seem to lead the world.

Freedom Of Speech was never intended to protect popular speech only.

They can say what they wish, but they should also have enough brains to know that others will judge them accordingly, and may react accordingly.

(Note: Freedom Of Speech only protects against speech restrictions imposed by government, NOT other people and entities.)

I don't think this is much of a freedom of speech issue.
the drinkers are not interested in communication a point of view or a message.

My point was that they can say whatever they wish but, they had better be prepared to pay the consequences that other people may bestow upon them.

Quite ironic, considering that Hitler didn't drink.
