I remember losing the family cat I grew up around. He was 14 as well, which is ancient for a cat. Just the sight of his now empty favorite pillow or derelict cat toys made me lose it for a few days.

I think I know how you feel. One and a half years ago, we had to put down our 15 year old Cocker Spaniel. I grew up with him, and I couldn't have wished for a merrier or more amiable fella.
Take comfort in the fact that your cats have always had a good home and a family. And I think they knew that, in a way ![]() |

The first shock is over. Time to move on. But never forget...
Shockingly, I didn't take many pictures of both of them. Mostly Zeke tbh. I didn't want to pick a favorite but I think Zeke was. He was more cuddly and likeable. Anyone who met him fell for his curious behavior and lack of fear. And he was so damn cute, and had such a wonderful fur, which he was keen on keeping clean. We have many pictures of them both, but most of them aren't digital, so not on any computer. Here we have Zeke at the dinner table, about a year ago. He tried to get some of my steak. I let him poke around in the food for awhile, but eventually took him down to the floor. ![]() Here he sits at our "gate" (we took away the bloody thing eons ago) checking out the block. Remarkably, he never got into fights with any of the other cats in the hood. That was mostly Sune's thing. They were brothers, and while far from best of friends, they accepted the others existence. ![]()

Tis a bugger when you have to have a loving pet put down.
I remember when my dog was put down. Not good. |

Zeke looks like he must've been a big hit with guests. If you were to add a little more black/gray to his coat he would like almost exactly like my cat. May I ask what breed your cats were?

And they're just regular Farm cats what I know. Nothing fancy, but good enough for me. What I also loved with Zeke is that he communicated with his eyes and by purring. He rarely meowed, instead he'd look at you and blink slowly to show that he wanted something, or he'd start to purr. And Zeke had a loud purr. It was dark, and loud, and it was very comforting to listen to.

Wow, those sound exactly like my cats. Boots (Older male) is very quiet and friendly, and loves to stare at people. He's always purring. OTOH, Gentle (Younger cat, and female... Don't ask about the name, someone else named her) is the exact opposite: Incredibly shy, always stays upstairs when people come over, and she'll start chirping the moment she sees you.
Anyways, I don't mean to turn this into a thread about my cats, but I was just surprised at how similar our cats sounded. Zeke and Sune sound like they must've been a great joy to have around the house.

Just found this pretty picture of Sune together with my mother. It's abit dark, but you can clearly see him. He was very attached to my mother, I think it's because she gave him a good first impression all those years ago. Ma grew up on a farm in the far north, and had cats all the time, so obviously she knows alot about them. She told me these two were the best she's ever had though...
![]() Oh, just found a real beauty of Zeke: ![]()
