RE Swaztika's.

The problem with including swaztika's out of the box is because it's too much of a liability. Both legally, and socially. Other games like COD include them because your not playing as a nazi. (MP not withstanding). Your usually shooting nazi's. That's socially acceptable because Nazi's are accepted by most societies as emotionless inhuman bad guys who are out to do evil, and the swaztika is still considered an ominous symbol by most. (these days as FPS's go, Zombies are the new Nazi's but thats another story). When you start playing under the banner of the 3rd reich (as opposed to shooting at it), then the moral slope gets a little slippery by most standards. Ubi made the best decision by sidestepping the issue entirely.

RE SH5.

Look's pretty!

I remember an AddOn of "Medal of Honor" was shortly after the release taken off the market here in Germany because the publisher EA has left a swastika texture in the AddOn. The addon was re-released a few weeks later as modified version in Germany.

It's not that we are not allowed here in Germany to buy any games with swastikas. We can order them on an entirely private gain abroad via Amazon, Gamestop etc. if we proof we are age of 18 or older but just can't buy it in a public game store.

It is gorgeous, though. At first I was a tiny bit unhappy that the rain left drops on the screen. On the periscope and binoculars, sure, but not on my eyes. Now that I've looked at it a few times I notice that it doesn't stay there long, and it really is kind of cool.

I just hope the gameplay improvements are as good as the graphics. Overall -

not a bad idea i thought .

hmm,
maybe I can finally convert my reference models of real subpen harbors of the Atlantic coast. This was impossible so far because of the polygon count of these models.

The graphic artists have done some beautiful work here. The model of the player's sub, for example, is a masterpiece (inside & out)! However, most of the problems with SH4 had nothing to do with graphics. While this particular update was concerned with the graphical improvements (understandable if you wanna quickly showcase the work done), I for one am most keen to see a list concerning improvements made to the dynamic campaign (all in good time). For example; one particular bugbear of SH4 was the deployment of aircraft in the dynamic campaign. As a matter of fact, half-written code exists in SH4 for both dynamic shadows and a far more elaborate aircraft deployment model. I just hope that this time the Devs get given a fair chance to finish their work...

it looks great but i must agree with others on the water drops in your eyes

we are not looking at the world through a glass window so this must be limited to views with the scopes or uzo otherwise its an issue and the first thing on my list to remove with mods.

i also noticed as the sun went down the ship shadows were going skyward like light shafts so im hoping thats still "in process" and not where they leave it. im guessing and hoping its something a modder could fix it if we needed to.

i also think having ships that are still breaking in half is a mistake because IMO it was fairly rare and im sad to see it is modeled into the sh5 game. i dont mind seeing them crack and sink (cracking and splitting hulls is a good thing to see and its realistic) but they shouldnt be seperating into pieces, it just isnt something they should be doing and IMO it was a very rare occurance in real life for them to ever completely seperate. (at least not while still afloat)

even if you agree they should break apart it shouldnt be cleanly sliced sections, it should look splintered and ripped apart.

now that my nitpicking and complaining is done i must say, overall it looks fantastic

now that ubi is showing us this, people will go even more bonkers wanting it now and not wanting to wait for it

wicked!!!!!!

I like the water on the view. A number of FPS games (eg Bioshock) have this feature.

From what i saw in the video, the break IS jagged, I did not see a 'clean slice' as you mentioned. To me it looks fine as is.

I can tell you (as some one with a fair bit of 3d moddling knowlege) that adding ultra realistic splintering and debrise to the break, is royal pain in the ass in 3d, especially when you have to apply multiple breaks to 50+ ship models.
It is too much effort for too little reward, IMHO the moddlers time is better spent on some additional units instead.

I know I'm impressed. I can't understand how anyone could have anything negative to say about these shots!

AMAZING!

Some of you guys are being way too nitpicky... what we're seeing is a great improvement over the predecessors!

What really bugs me is that people are passing this off as eye candy... in fact I hate the term "eye candy" because it is always used in such a dismissive way.
Graphics are an integral part of realism in my opinion. There is no way we could have the immersion we want with the wire-frame graphics of the early 90s.

And for Dowly, and any other doubters... the sunray effect in real life, with clear skies over Melbourne...
