Well a typical snafu will delay my first hand impressions for a few days.

My wife thought she had lost the credit card. Insisted I rush out and cut off the card. Of course as soon as I did she found the card

So we had to move monies around into other accounts and wait for it to clear.

Should have it by the weekend though.

Think of maintenace as a flew-vacination; maybe you wouldn't have gotten sick in the first place, but by getting the shot you tip the scales in your favor.

True enough that a modern system is more robust and doesn't require such delicate care. Only maintenance I really do is regclean every now and then, and make sure old drivers are gone before I install new ForceWare. Defrag is automated, daily if nescesary.

Game is still locked, wonder if Valve screwed up; release was 7th initially, changed to 5th for some reason and without anouncement, may be in error.

Programming for a Playstation is a b*tch, they did what they could in the given time. I wouldn't say the PS3 version isn't on par, just that it's a little rougher around the edges.

* it unlocked, gonna have a look.

Just a quick run through till my first level-up. Classic Bioware RPG, people who played Neverwinter Nights will be familiar with the camera system (top down tactical, or low exploration).

Framerate is a little low though, got it set to high (very high available, no individual settings, just slider for quality, 1 for textures and 1 for anti-aliasing) and 1280x960, no AA. Getting 30 FPS or higher at all times, but enabling AA dipped it to ~24 minimum in dense scene. As you can see from the shots, graphics are good but not spectacular. imho there's some optimization to be done here, it's more demanding than nescesary. (cooling on the card isn't going high either, so it isn't demanding on the card. Seems to be bottlenecking somewhere on the software side)

No issues to report yet; no glitches, bugs, stutters, hangs, freezes or crashes. Ran stable for at least an hour.

And yes, that's the blood of our fallen foes covering me and ma dog.

Still looks good without AA, me thinks.

^ Looks nice!

I seen the game map and what caught my eye was Neverwinter, luskan etc., Dammit i can see myself getting this real soon! While googling i came across another RPG made by some Russian devs 'Arise, KranX Productions' that came out same time as Dragon Age - Why they would put their rpg out at the same time as DA beats me Were they hoping some would get confused and buy their one instead.

A Farewell to Dragons (2009) Reminds me of Baldurs Gate.

Lol so many great games are coming out and I just added boardgaming to my list of hobbies and have pr-ordered two with one more another possibility....I have to pick my PC games carefully now

The list of great PC games coming out or is now available
1. Napoleon TW(TW series though CA is a bitch but the series has sold on me)
2. Star Wars The Old Republic MMORPG
3. Silent Hunter V(but after SHIV I'm adopting wait and see first)
4. Mass Effect 2
5. Assassin Creed 2
6. Dragon Age Origins

As you can see half of the games on the list are from BIOWARE .
And been a while since I consider this many games...there was time I thought PC gaming was coming to an end.
And luckily Diablo 3 has been postponed to much later next year!

Edit: I just found out that the old republic is only going to be released 1 year from now about October 2010. So that brings the list to down to 5.

I just picked it up yesterday for PC. I've had 4-5 hours of playtime last night with no glitches or crashes. Choppy framerates on a dual core AMD and a pair of nvidia 8800s, but not to the point of being unplayable.

The story is decent so far. Typical fantasy "swords and magic with a great evil force threatening the world" fare, but well done so far. Voice acting seems good.

Solid and serviceable graphics but nothing eye-popping - however I am running it with medium texture quality and no AA. If you liked NWN and Baldur's Gate, you'll dig this.

It is, Mabari hound or something. Think it's one of the perks of starting out as a human noble. That mutt handles battle better than me.

Link to my player profile, I think. I don't really like a game automatically collecting data and sending it (can be disabled), but in this case it might be interesting for some to have a look at the screenshots. Updates rather slow though.

* whole site is still in beta stage, might be a bit quirky.

Registration required to download any of the "bonus content" for the game, too. I got some character I haven't seen yet and some armor I can't use yet.

I'm not sure how I feel about that part of it.

Which makes me wonder; Mookie, I've got textures on high and details on high, FPS is usually between 30-60, no AA, 1280x960. Are you running some crazy resolution? Performance should be better on that gear.

Ah, C2Q @3GHZ, 4GB DDR2-800 and 8800GTS 512 on this end.

Yeah, figured it needs registration. Boy it was a pain getting my extra content. I had a Bioware account, but forgot the pass. Clicking "forgot password" took me to some EA site where, of course, my credentials weren't recognized. Ended up making a new account.

Just had a fun encounter: So we stroll across a bridge and run into some Highwayman (robbers). They tell us we should cough up 10 silver pieces, or else... So I tell them about being a Grey Warden and all, and their will to fight fades away. Better yet, I persuade them the Wardens could use a donation, and we left there with 20 silver more than we came with.

There's some good humour in there, reminds of Neverwinter 2 (the Dwarf and Thiefling constantly at each others throat, and Sand the always-sarcastic wizard, brilliant )

* oh, still no issues to report, solid as a rock.

I've got a AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ Dual-Core, 2x NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512MB and 2 GB DDR2-800. Similar setups...possibly the RAM factor?

I was running at 1680 x 1050. Hmm...maybe I should check into something here.

EDIT: Lowered the resolution to 1280 x 960, turned off vsync and frame buffer effects and still getting fps in the low teens.

I just did that part too. Alistair and Morrigan's snipping at each other in the town is too funny. I'm really liking the voice actor for Alistair...he's got that "annoyed resignation" tone down.
