Thats never going to happen again.
Activision/IW have decreed that going forward COD on pc will be exactly as COD on console. That is to say COD as a pc game will be S H I T.
  • No dedicated servers
  • No more kicking or banning players from servers
  • IW.net decides who hosts
  • Automatic host migration
  • No mods
  • No lean
  • No console
  • FOV locked at 65
  • 25% price increase over previous game
  • pc version is lucky to get mouse control and graphic settings

100% S H I T, not worthy of buying, renting or surfing the high seas.

Good one

On a more serious note this is starting to be quite a trend. Not that it has yet affected any games I'm seriously awaiting for(bar SH-series where the lack of dedi isn't really a problem), but things don't certainly look promising for PC gamers.

It depends really.
Some pc games have a multiplayer component where at most 3 to 6 players will play together. Other games such as Dangerous Waters don't need a dedicated server because of how the missions are played.
A game such as Falcon 4 that has a dynamic multiplayer campaign needs to have a dedicated server.
FPS games where more than 20 people are expeted to play on maps need a dedicated server.
What irks me is that everything in MW2 is a downgrade with respect to MW except the price that has gone up. This makes no sense and pc gamers should really be leaving this piece of C R A P on the shelves.

Since we are kind of on the topic of fps games, what are some good and very recent PC fps shoot em up games with dedicated servers and large multiplayer? Battlefield 2 is getting kinda old. I like playing with large maps and lots of people.

Multiplayer fps games that I recall playing and enjoying the hell out of are; the old CoD + UO, Battlefield 42, Red Orchestra, and Battlefield 2. I used to be into Quake and UT. I know UT is still around in some form or other, but somehow they aren't interesting to me anymore. There was a brief stint I enjoyed an mmo called Planetside, but monthly fee's aren't my thing so I ditched it long ago. Hows the action in Arma 2 online? Are there large scale player battles? I've only ever really did little co-op affairs. The Operation Flashpoint style of games just never seemed suitable for large player battles. Sure the huge maps and vehicles are there, but I don't think the game's popular enough for me to just join a 60+ player game whenever I feel like it.

I guess what I really want right now is another Battlefield game Any news on Red Orchestra 2?

ps. I would love it if every fps game would have proper bullet penetration. Also, I've yet to see anything top the awesomeness of Red Orchestra's 'suppression' effects.

I also wonder why someone would pay THAT MUCH MONEY!!! LOL for a peice of s*** game that probably has a linear storyline that is boreing...

I wonder... if I put CALL OF DUTY, THE UBER SUPER DUPER EDITION!!! on a peice of dog s*** if I could make tons of money off it. (and ruin some kids console who trys to shove it in...)

Modern warfare 2, get killed a new way!, no leaning! rush out and get shot, instead of leaning around and shooting!

I just saw a video of the "No Russian" chapter of MW2 and I'm sure it will make some people angry...if they where mad at GT4 then "No Russian" will be a nuclear bomb to the few that usually complain about violence in video games.

There's usually one or two big Player vs. player servers with up to 120 guys playing, but other than that it's smaller scale stuff. Around 30 and below is pretty normal in coops. I get my "large scale event fix" in organized company at www.tacticalgamer.com/armed-assault, where they run a bi-weekly event with a normal turnout of over 50 people. That's about as much as the server can handle in coops because it also has to take care of AI. On normal nights at TG you can also have that kind of player numbers, but it's less organized because anyone can join while taking part in the events require you to sign up on the forums. The missions are normally complex enough that they have to be run organized or it'll fail miserably.

Just FYI tonight's TG event, due to start in an hour, has ~70 signups at this time. Arma2 with player numbers like this is just epic

This is the part where you go through the Airport killing people?

I'm glad I work 6-2 on Tuesday, I'll go straight from work to my local gamestop and pick up my hardened edition.

Yeah that one, but at least there's no little kids among the crowd, makes me wonder if some kids who manage to get their hands on it will attempt something like that

Just finished it in SP. What can I say... I've always been a fan of the CoD series and it never ceased to amaze me how they come up with Stalingrad-like moments in every game. But Modern Warfare 2 simply amazed me. Some of the levels (it's so hard not to spoil...) beat anything I've ever seen in a FPS. I'm not an America America fan to say the least and yes, it's boring to see America invaded in almost every game/movie considering the real
situation .

But this game made me forget about politics for a while because it managed to hide patriotism under a hail of bullets. The threat felt so real that I even wondered if the russian players would feel proud to see such a huge and well equipped russian army. At times I just wanted to sit back and watch the fights. The airport level for one made my jaw drop... I was listening to Muse's Exogenesis Part1 from their last album and it all seemed slow motion to me. It was like the best joint I'll ever have . The pitch dark and rainy Washigton level almost made me cry of joy. It reminded me of the Berlin Metro Station level of the last CoD but with an apocalyptic twist. I wanted that level to never end, for the sun to never come back again and for the game to just turn into Fallout 3.

Some have complained about the graphics, but I can't understand why. I have a GTX 275, not exactly a top of the range card, but I've played it on max and at some moments I thought I was watching a 100 million dollar movie. The levels, the backgrounds, the animations, the special effects like fire sparks, pieces of flying paper, rain etc, all merged into something so good that I just wanted to pause and look around to let the image sink into my retina. And that's surprising because until now I hated modern day graphics and longed for the simpler times of Jedi Knight and Half Life when your enemies were not hidden by 999999 brightly colored polygons.

I keep hearing that the multiplayer part is bad and I too wished that the SP campaign would just go on and on. But for me at least, the SP campaign provided the most amazing moments I've ever experienced in any game.

Sadly a lot of kids will be getting their little hands on it. When I went to pick up my copy there were atleast 4-5 different Mom's getting it for their children or for someone else's child. I mute almost everyone in the MP matches just because they all sound like whiney little 12 year olds.

The story was great, they've totally set it up for a MW3 with the cliff hanger ending, and I can honestly say I want a MW3 already just to see what happens.

Yeah I saw that screen as well, pretty horrible. I supported the boycott and at least I intend to keep it that way.

Oh and this might be interesting if it holds any truth:
