Of course I still am a terrible sub captian, but at least I have fun.
If you think that you're having fun now, wait until something like THIS is in your sights

Sheesh, Frederf, you have quite the chip on your shoulder. I imagine you also don't have sonar. a couple of pings, placed three minutes apart will give you your two positions while submerged and unable (or unwilling) to see the target.

FLEXIBILITY man! Its the difference between success and failure. Lockwood didn't suffer timid or unimaginative captains. If they thought their job was unreasonable or unsuitably dangerous, the Admiral was quite content to relieve them of command so they could take a position in one of those landing craft assaulting Iwo Jima or other safe location.

And frankly, I'm not in love with Mark 18s. You should know that I am all about the inevitability of error and the tactics to mitigate that ever-present error. A major factor in getting more hits is higher torpedo speed. The other is reducing range to as ridiculously close as possible. All other things being equal your miss rate is directly proportional to torpedo speed. Mark 14s and 23s rule!

I do use Mark 18s in John P Cromwell attacks, but get more misses that way, which is acceptable because they're coming by for a right angle attack a bit later anyway..
