Yeah, I read this earlier.

I've always fancied myself a student of eschatology so that whole 2012 Coincidence Theory has fascinated me ...

... but I doubt there's anything to it.

Well between this, the potential of a super eruption in Yellowstone, and the risk of a large rock or comet hitting the earth, not to mention all the other possible major calamities its a wonder I get out of bed in the morning.

As far as I am aware the science behind this is valid and if it did happen at the wrong moment the effects could be catastrophic (our societies are almost entirely dependent on electricity as mentioned in the article). As such I see no reason not to take appropriate precautions to defend against such a possibility.

Great thing though is channels like Discovery are making a mint by making special "documentaries" about such stuff and what could "happen".

Popular media has f'ed up reporting about science for decades and people too lazy to check up on things fall for it every time and parrot the same feces over and over.

Note: comment at the last paragraph of NeonSamurais post, not this article at hand, ahvent actualy bothered to look into this yet.

Big deal. I lived through the Quebec incident... Nothing special.

This stuff has been going on since time started. I'm more concerned about rogue asteroids than a hot sunny day farting plasma at us.

We can live with out power. I guess that's the difference between me being raised as a country boy than a city slicker.

I'll sure miss subsim though..
