CaptainHaplo,

have we ever played before? I am not sure. I started these chess threads in I think 2006 and I played against many different interested GT visitors since then, so I lost track a bit. I'm not too good at the table-and-board-setting, but I am a better correspondence chess player and analyst, becasue I can take more timen two boards, and pencil and paper .

Interested? We have set the rules to no chess engines allowed, obviously, but chess GUI are allowed to keep track of moves and produce position diagrams, and literature where wanted is allowed, too. Pretty much the setting for regular correspondence chess.

People interested to see the old matches, they are still there, and can be found via search-button, advanced search, search term "chess".

When I use the simple search via the default popup window and enter "chess", I strangely do not get a single result, though.

Usually all match threads were marked with "CHESS MATCH X vs. Y" in the headline.

We had a spike in activity in May-September 2006, I think, and last year again. I still remember my two matches against Scandium 2006, my toughest opponent so far.

Skybird - sure thing. Though after the comment of "my toughest opponent so far" makes me wonder if my starting game isnt a result of being called out by the resident subsim chess wizard......We have never played before as I didn't know this existed - I didn't visit GT for the longest time after I joined.

If Aramike wants to have a go as well, I can do multiple games at once if he likes. Or anyone else for that matter - just don't overload me!

Skybird, since I accept the challenge (Lord help me!!!) - you get the pick of colors. Start the thread or let me know I need to based on your choice.

Though I do have a question. I am assuming en-passant is allowed?

Best of luck.

Yes, as I discovered to my lasting dismay in the last round of chess matches.

I could see it in a tournament or board where you track your wins and maybe even offer prizes, but nobody keeps score here. Don't think we have much to prove to a couple of strangers on the internet

I'm sorry...? Have I messed up some language thing? Sometimes. I'm not sure I understand what you mean here.

Of course, in chess that rule is mandatory, always.

I get a thread launched.

I am sure the language is fine - it just sounded like your probably spanking everyone you play.

Meaning I may show decently - or may get skunked.

Either way it will be fun.

English is my first language and even I don't know what the hell he's saying.

Oh, I see, and now looking at my words again I must admit that you may be right - I sounded haughty. It was not my intention, but was carelessness on my side. I apologise. It's true that I won all my matches so far, but there are 30.000 members at subsim, and I am sure many of them play chess, and of these without doubt some play it better than I ever did. It's just that they do not show up in the GT forum so far.

And as I said, this setting of correspondence chess just meets my "needs". Playing live at the table sees my playing much weaker, and being vulnerable to miscalculations. In that I am really more an analyst than a player. Correspondence chess I have played since my school days. But my club and table-tournament days are over since more than 20 years. I do not like club routine.

Its all good brother, don't sweat it. This means of communication doesn't convey tone very well - as I have had the misfortune to be misunderstood more than once myself.

I am the opposite - I can play using 2d (like a pc program) but right now I have a small set up beside me as I type playing - I do much better having a physical board. If I didn't have a real board, my play would suffer dramatically. Each to their own.

I'm back from my match with Skybird in which I shocked him at turn 20 by employing the "French Defense". http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=149098

Anybody interested in a match?

I think it was Porphy using the diagrams from Winboard, so I will provide you with occasional diagrams this time.
