One often overlooked aspect of the uboat was was BdU's idea to use the small, yet manueverable type II/D to hunt enemy destroyers and other warships in their home waters. BdU usually selected their most daring and unorthodox captains to command these vessels as they plunged head first into the waters that surrounded the British Isles.
Destroyer captains were now finding themselves under attack as they head out into the deep Atlantic. The English Channel and the Irish Sea were no longer safe as these little submarines went about their sneaky business. ![]() ![]() ![]() Of course what I wrote above really didnt happen. Its a little fluff I use in my endless type II/D campaigns against the Brits in their home waters. A nice change of pace to forget tonnage and go after the hunters. Amazing how these little boats can get away, even in shallow waters. ![]() |

Ah, Type IID's, the little big canoeboats... Great fun, although the small torpedo complement means only 3 or 4 (Or 5, if you're that good) destroyers will meet their fate...
Would be cool if going after the hunters actually had an effect on the bigger picture, still fun though!

I'd like to see some single missons like this added to the great GWX Gold lineup.
Maybe not realistic but, still will give you that tense " gut wrenching fix " we love and need. ![]() How about it ? ![]() |

it is a ton of fun. and with no tonnage worries its a different way to approach the game. I edited the basic.cfg so I can get 6 eels in the boat as the voyages are rarely more then a few days. Most destroyers can only handle one good shot anyways!

as jim said...u just gotta love em...like to sail out of france in a type II, and head to AM, and attack a convoy, easily evade the escorts and get home in time so that my crew can celebrate their victory with some french drinks and women.

I enjoy being in the Black Sea. There are some pretty big troop ships hiding in there.

i think the reason people drive iids is because they remind them of seehund mini subs, tit wouldnt be too hard to put them in game, size them down and add 2 torps onto the sides, but rather pointless.........
