Bubbleheads can say what they want. It's not the same thing as being on a practice dive or being under a hostile warship that tries to kill you.

So, all I'm asking is a wee bit respect to those who went thru the hell. A computer game cant come nowhere near it.

You know I think SHIII and the GWX has created such a real immersive experience that it transcends just a sterile virtual game experience and had made me really empathize with the those involved. I have felt both sheer joy in sinking a ship and than remorse for doing so. I have felt the horror and hopelessness when hearing several pings zeroing in on me. For the most part I have taking away from my SHIII game experience a better understanding the brutal nature of naval warfare. I have played many naval war games and sub simulations and none of made me stop and rethink about the consequences of sending a vitual torpedo towards some nicely render pixels. Mys thanks to all those responsible for creation of the GWX mod.

Besides GWX, the closest I've come to the real thing was a tour of the USS Torsk, a Tench class diesel sub. She wasn't underway, of course, so I didn't get a feel for how that would have been. Boy was she cramped, though! She's one of the big fleet subs too, I don't want to even imagine how bad it must have been on, say, a German type VII boat.

Though, it was still cool to touch a real WWII sub.

It's the fact that you actually served on the real thing that makes the sim so real to you. Your brain looks at the computer screen and brings back all the senses you already experienced. For example, I've never been on a warship, I've never smelt that oil mixed with the motion of the ocean, so for me a computer sim is nowhere near the real thing. Did I make sense?
Absolutely NOT.
