if it was a multiple choice poll, I'd select
Completely not historical, unless you are the skipper of U-47.
Shameless exploitation of AI weakness
Exciting set piece challange, with both prize and risk

Since it's not, I voted for No thanks...

I only raided a port once, Gibraltar in june 41. I made two attempts. First time I approached in rough weather, was detected and barely escaped. I returned the following night, sunk the Nelson and got away.

It was one of the most nerve-wrecking experience I had in this game.

Privateer, your 'not so nice' mods for Harbor raiders sound interesting.

Well in my opinion...War its War...all means are avaiable specialy those wich the enemy its not counting (surprise factor) or never was tried or experiment in a World War (Spec Op). So this words have a lot of sense:

"A remarkable exploit of professional skill and daring" - Churchill

I went for choice 1, but 3 was a close second.

I'll only attack harbours when ordered via Sh3Gen.

So I voted Challenging, but only when attacking harbors not attacked before

Too bad.. Harbor Raids are cheesey...

A long time ago I raided NYC Harbor sunk a tanker sitting next to Liberty Island... I even posted a bunch of screens about it in a thread. I leave the thread up to remind myself that...

It was very UN-satisfying.

Harbor Raids SHOULD NOT be your bread and butter!!

I never do harbour raids. i act like a real skipper
i preffer stay in depth waters in front of the port intercepting the traffic.

In real life, a raid could end in a disaster , the crew captured, and the worst, the boat in shallow waters were the divers can enter easily.

Sub nets, sound devices, mines, destroyers with depth charges set to 14-20 meters
air cover ( the boat easy to see in shallow waters), too dangerous

I like to think that the only thing harbour raids are good for is surrendering.

Shameless exploit....

Hell, I sailed into Liverpool during GWX testing, sunk whatever was sinkable, and even surfaced for a while to get some fresh air before making my way back out

I've been to all British harbours, and almost all in the med, as well as some odd ones like st. Helena and have only been sunk doing so in Tobruk and Malta, although there were some tense moments elsewhere too, like getting bombed by the luftwaffe while in the middle of Bristol Harbor

I don't do harbors in career play, although you will find me hunting in the Irish Sea until late 1942

I never raid harbors, my U-Boot has an allergic reaction against UK Harbors. :rotfl:

Even though I've done it many times (though never in a DiD career) I voted shameless exploit. I'm almost always able to pin the prowling escorts into running themselves into concrete piers which they can't escape while I float around freely picking targets at will.

Heh I just 'raided' Loch Ewe after being given the mission by SH3Gen.The weather was foul but I was spotted by a PT boat and that screwed that idea of doing a Prien and sinking the "Illustrious" fleet carrier which I was told might be there. And it was!

I fired my fishes blind (I missed) and crept away from the party above. I know the only reason I survived was it was Oct. '39 and there was no ASDIC so they were just dropping their loads blind. I sunk a C2 and a Proteus freighter just outside the harbour. That made up for the carrier.

I voted for the 1st one. I just wanted to see if I could do what Prien did 14 days earlier.

This was WAC not GWX.

Sound listening devices,
which were implemented in WWI.

And those are attached to land control points.
Which had a bad habit of setting off complete Minefields
when a sound was detected!

Imagine being in the middle of a Mine field when the whole field goes BOOM!!
:rotfl:
Gimme too! Did you get the moving subnet boom we discussed working?
