Why are we bringing political things on subsim, Political things seem to always start things. Lets not start this war stuff. Now lets forget that all this political stuff occured, It seems to be changeing the subsim atmosphere(not in a good way).

nah, this isn't just a subsim thing. the same arguments and fights - sometimes more intelligently put and sometimes less intelligently put - are recurring on just about every forum in the internets.

This kulturkampf of America's is really unbelievable, the amount of vitriol and hate you pour on your fellow countrymen, possible next president and general people on the opposing side, is incredible. If it was any other country I'd think serious violence was just around the corner. But i know the US has had many periods of this intensity of feeling before and only one major violent period.

But still in this time of extreme polarity, so little seems at stake and the issues with which you relentlessly bash the other side seem so vapid.

I'm reminded of Nietzsche's observation that at times of peace, the violent man will turn on himself.

Ah Joe, we've actually had a few violent periods. The War for Independence, the War of 1812, the Mexican American War, and the worst and most costly in American history, and the last on our own soil, the War Between the States. I hate calling it the Civil War, as war is anything but civil. More accurately put, it should be called the unCivil War.

This is a good read on the latter subject: http://books.google.com/books?id=JB0...+war+chronicle

And some folks forget that Lincoln was the first Republican President, and while he was in office, is when America became embroiled in it's bloodiest war ever.
