We are not going to see anytime soon 5, 10 or even 20 GHz cpu's in the desktop market. The reason being current leakage, its a technological barrier rather than a marketing one. And its the big reason why Intel scraped the Netburst architecture in favor of the Core microarchitecture.
The way forward is increasing cores instead of crazily increasing frequency. |

![]() As I said, an OS should not be as big as possible, but as small as possible. Which probably is the exact opposite of what a global monopolist is capable to think of. If only other OS like Linux would offer much, much more compatability with existing software running under windows. then even me would decide that working myself into it would be worth it. But as it is: it is no alternative for guys like me. And unfortunately Microsoft knows that.
