woot! thanks so much kapt otto!

quick question. I see you use u-23 which is a type II/B. are you just using a type A or did you mod the boat a bit with the B improvement?

thanks again

Hi there gord96,

In short the answer is no I dont use the Type II/B modeled in SH3 because it is not available as a player operated u-boat. It is only available as an AI u-boat.

Before GWX 2.1 I used a Type II/A and modified the fuel / range myself to reflect the range of the Type II/B. This in reality was the main differance. When it comes to the observation periscope the Type II/A and /B did not historicaly have one and so I simply would'nt use the one modelled in SH3. It wasnt until the Type II/C that an observation scope was added.

Now I have GWX 2.1 one of the modifications the GWX dev team have made is to increase the range to reflect a Type II/B and so I dont need to do that myself any more.

In SH3 Both the Type II/A and Type II/D use the same interior model and its very difficult to remove the observation scope in the Type II/A without it affecting the Type II/D. I should imagine its not impossible though. :hmm:

It definately beyond my modding abilities anyway!

I chose the number U-23 bacause it was Otto Kretschmer's boat at the beggining of the war. "One torpedo one ship" was his motto!

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! OLD DOG LEARNS NEW TRICK!

I have to thank you, Kpt, Otto, for your inspiration. I found I could no longer look at one of my favorite skins, since it wouldn't work with the new Water Streams mod. After reading your thread (and downloading the skin), I finally got brave enough to open up Silent 3ditor and start fiddling. Now when I leave port in 1939 I get to look at Sean's AI Type IIB with Rusty Camoflage hull!.

And the water streams work!

Sorry for using your thread to show this, but I didn't want to tie up too much space on the Mods Board; and it's directly related, so I hope you don't mind.

Single hull=crappy crush depth. Slow top speed. Short range. No deck gun. Not enough crew to have everything constantly manned. Five torpedoes total.

What's not to love?

Good point, especially with all the duds. Has your crew complained about getting around with the thing sitting in the middle of the floor?

Default Nop!

Hello there Sailor Steve,

No I do not seem to have a copy of that original skin in the archive!

The conning tower does seem to need adjusting though as Mikhayl suggested. :hmm:

Ive tried searching for the skin but all links seem to be dead now.

If you also think the conning tower needs an update and need a hand, post up the original skin somewhere and I will give it go!

Good hunting sir!

@ Kpt, Otto: My timing is terrible. I was hoping to get it to you before you actually asked, but anyway here is Sean's Complete TexPack, with all the skins he released. This was one of the very first skins made for SHIII.
http://files.filefront.com/Seans+Com.../fileinfo.html

@ Mikhayl: I tried everything I could think of, but no matter what I imported where, I had no luck. I hope you can fix it, because even though I don't use it for my own boat, I like looking at it as it goes by in the harbor. The correct one is "Type IIB Line Camo".

@ nikbear: Go into Data/Cfg/Basic. You'll have to look down the list aways, but if you dig deep enough you'll come to '[SUBMARINE_AMMO0]; IIA'. You'll see one of the values as 'ForeResIntern=2'. Change it to 3 and you should be good to go. And if I'm wrong I hope somebody smacks be before I can do any real damage.
