The first time I dock at at the Belchen supply ship, it was sunset, the fog was thick, the clouds are low and the rain was heavy. When I set my eyes in the ship, it looked abandoned, like a ghost ship.

Until the French ports become available the supply ships serve as my home base as their positions are perfect for either US raiding or mediterranean (before La Spezia/Salamis is available). Last patrol after expending all torpedos/ammo I had to dodge 3 outbound conveys from Halifax just to get to the supply ship, one of them I just had rotten luck and ran perfectly perpendicular into one and the escort saw me long enough before I could dive that he made life miserable for a few hours in the (relatively) shallow water in that area. |

I finally got to visit Belchen during a patrol that started off as the pits. I chased a convoy that I never found and sank nothing until I came across a 110 ton trawler and decided to sink it with gunfire to exercise my gun crew.
They were pathetic and in the end I think the poor little vessel just died of boredom. In despair I continued west and then bingo, with nothing in sight I dived and listened at the hydrophone. Just as well I did because I picked up a fast moving vessel. Turned out to be a 25,000 ton troop ship that was crossing my bows. Flank speed and just enough time to fire four T1 Eels before it zoomed past at 21 knots. Not even sure how many hit but up it went (with LOTS of lifeboats afterwards). Then I noticed for the first time Belchen on the chart and thought why not top up and go to Canada and see what is there. So pulled up alongside, refuelled and rearmed and away I went. Now some questions. On passage to Canada I came across a convoy and had a chance to target a heavy cargo and fired off two eels (both dud) but if I did, I had five escorts make my life hell for three hours and took quite a bit of damage before escaping. After repairs I noticed that my fuel was REALLY low which meant I had to head back to Belchen (where I am now) to refuel. The question is can you lose fuel when attacked. Other question. I saw in the convoy a tanker that was burning, I then saw on my chart a type IX submarine that was astern of the convoy. Other than in harbour I have never come across another Uboat. Clearly from the burning tanker it must have attacked the convoy. Does this happen? Long story short. I am having dinner this evening with the skipper of the supply boat and will sail back to Canada at dawn.

It will messed up the credit, medals and next patrol is 0, so you miss grid patrol credit...
i always use slow ahead 3knots under water and 7knots surface, dive at day and charge at night, you will see you save huge on diesel, example if i start sailing from wilhelmhaven and my patrol grid is CG85, i could reach with VII u boot all the way to Ivory coast and heading back to Wilhelmshaven without re-fueling in portugal or spain... same thing if i change home-base from Wilhelmshaven to Brest..... I learned my lesson with using "re-supply" options... but it's up to you... |
