I just finished watching. Quite interesting, exciting and sad all at the same time. Some good vintage footage of the Sydney in action in the Med and of the Kormoran's survivors being towed back to shore by the Centaur.
Interviews with the Kormoran CO's adjutant were interesting as well. According to the doco they now have around 25 hrs of underwater footage of the Sydney and about 10 hrs of the Kormoran. I'd love to see more than what they showed but what they showed seems to explain quite a bit about what probably happened. Kormoran smashed the Sydney's bridge and gunnery direction in the first salvo or two and whilst Sydney certainly hit back, her fate was to have a torpedo hit her bow and eventually to have the bow break off a while later whilst trying to limp to shore sinking her in seconds. The damage to Sydney was quite apparent and they had found most of her boats within 500m or so of the main wreckage. The bow was found upside down some 500m from the rest of the ship. The sadness and relief of the families was evident that although they had lost their loved ones they at least had a place to mark where they fell, instead of an empty ocean with no positive awareness of what had happened. The results of the upcoming government inquiry will be interesting and I assume they will sift through most of the 35 hours of footage to see the damage for themselves. |

![]() I enjoyed the program and it helped clear up for me how she sank without survivors. I found it interesting to see the face of the lady from the Finding Sydney group when she saw the wreck. A very well put together program, the delay to get the extra footage in was worth it. Good to see that the Germans were mentioned and proved that they were telling the truth all along. |

At least the ABC is quick on put up video content after they screen it, I wish some of the other channels would follow their lead!
