Could you point me the part where he insults the game or the devs or the company? :hmm:
An archetype of negative Kentucky Fried Mole type people who think somehow their negativism is going to detract from the greatest submarine simulation franchise in history. Although I don't "doubt his habilities" (Kentucky Fried Mole quote) even his great "habilities" won't influence me to help as long as he persists in his attitude. When someone like this surfaces he can change that attitude or forget about getting any help. We've had enough of this broken record. Some people are not worthy of help.

That being said, if he looks around, realizes he is wrong and asks for help like a human being, not passing judgment from a lofty position of ignorance, my attitude would change also. But if we reward insolence, we will get more of it. I, for one, won't be bashful in urging that we don't reward troublemakers. Someone who leads off with "How can I give SH4 back to UBI because multiplyer won't work yet. A game that can't played online is worthless." is not asking for help, he's displaying his posterior.

To quote STEED, "use the search function" and learn the error of your ways. Five minutes will show you that many play the game online with no problem. Therefore, you are the problem. Ask nicely and we'll help you fix it. Otherwise leave.

I should quit beating around the bush and just state my opinion.:rotfl:
Righto...

I still cant see where he insults the game nor the devs. He just states that a game he cant play online is worthless (to him). As he also says that he doesnt want to play it offline, doesnt it then make it worthless to him? Now, you can see from his post that his english isnt perfect (no offence Diplomatic), maybe this gives the post a tone he didnt mean? Maybe he is just a player seeking for help from the forums? But instead of help, ppl come out carrying torches and yelling "HERETIC!!".

I agree Dowly, quite often the translation from German to English results in something sounding quite "aggressive", while it is (often) unintentional to do so.

Whoa! The drama! The guy should not have started off this way. BTW if you decide to give away SH4 can you send it here please? I know someone who wants one.

Meh dont worry about it.

Even if he does get it to work chances are finding a match up with compatible versions are going to be slim to none.

Also he will find it quite lonely out there a virtual ghost town. I think there is maybe 10 people whom play online.

Frankly I think UBI made a mistake by putting efforts into trying to integrate multi player ability into what was designed to be a single player game.

Yes. Out in the Pacific no one can hear you scream. I agree SH4 Multiplayer has gone the way of Destroyer Command multiplayer.

Indeed... seems they made a lot of wasted efforts in different areas to make the game more appealing to mainstream players, when sadly, SH4 will never appeal to anyone outside us "niche" players. No controversy intended, it's just the way it is... for starters, SH4 requires a big time commitment from the player, which is something the "casual" player just isn't willing to do.

Anyway, it's off topic so I'll stop here, I just wanted to second your opinion.

Apply as required:

1) The view must be nice from that lofty perch,

2) You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

I thought that garnering support for this community and computer game genre was an important thing to do - serves our interests as subsim fans the best (e.g. buying an expansion pack I don't personally want). But evidently it is the honest opinion of some that sometimes it is better to burn a bridge rather than try and help create a new fan of the product/s. Or perhaps this forum is supposed to be an exclusive club rather than a public forum. Yup, sometimes, people who don't "worship at the same altar" pay us a visit, but that doesn't mean we have an obligation to make certain they don't come back or further support the genre. How 'bout we show a little class when those visits occur?

The user was obviously frustrated. Something impossible about just letting it go rather than make sure to kick him in the arse on the way out the door? :hmm:

Ever hear the old adage, "If you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all."?

SH4 is indeed an excellent product thanks to the modders and dev's. Absolutely no need to get overly defensive. Matter of fact, as part of this "community" that intolerant and defensive attitude bothers me more than anything the OP said.

Before anyone else replies with some witty crap about me doing the same (keeping my mouth shut that is), I would highly advise you to look at my post count then look at your own.

". . . and that's all I have to say about that."

-Forest Gump-

Forgive me JC but I thought that maybe there was something to be learned here. All due respect. Moving on.

Although many people don't use this online... I really like LAN with this game... seriously, any halfwitted nub with basic motorfunction can enjoy this game when set to easy and is spawned near enemy action.

I am still trying to get a LAN going with 4+ people here... really want to do this 'control the fleet' stuff. Although usually none of my friends will let me play VS them

I get in trouble for that all the time, makes me no friends... but still, sometimes things need to be said. I had a dopey friend once that made me laugh when he quipped this little statement "I hate people that say stuff" ^^
